One of the best things about this set is that it gives you 2 songs that never before have been available on album or CD ,they were just released on 45 RPM records only and these are:
"JINGLE BELLS" and "THERES A TAVERN IN THE TOWN".

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this CD. It features Pete tooting in the traditional Dixieland style as we have come to love him. There are his signature songs (Just a closer Walk With Thee, Amazing Grace) and some standards (Georgia, It Had to Be You). He really lets go on the traditional Dixieland songs, Muskrat Ramble, Basin Street Blues, Tin Roof Blues and Jazz Me Blues. I liked hearing a tuba (being a tuba player myself). There is some really good guitar playing (although there is no guitar player in the credits, it's either the listed fiddle player Johnny Gimbel or banjo player Les Muscott). The recording quality is excellant. All together, a solid CD that is now on my iPod.

If you like jazz, you'll love this CD. This is the traditional stuff, straight from Preservation Hall in New Orleans. From the strum of the banjo on "Hindustan", to the vocals on the title song, to the "talking trumpet" on "Careless Love", and the fantastic clarinet solos on "Just a Closer Walk with Thee", this is a delight from beginning to end. Enjoy!

Finnaly , a wonderful jazz and swing record. Ruby Braff has recorded all the nuances and secrets of his trumpet, the last record of his carreer, accompanied by the last "guitar rythmist" Bucky Pizzareli. There is space to hold the indefectible and untastable John Pizzarelli.

Got the CD in Hong Kong within a matter of few days after my order was confirmed. Great and speedy service of a wonderful purchase.

Although not an expert on Bechet's remarkable carreer, I have heard quite a few of his recordings over the years and I think these are among the best; avoiding his French phase in favor of his American roots...
And he really diggs into the tunes; his company is mostly fine or more than fine, varying widely (it includes Louis Armstrong, Clarence Williams, Tommy Ladnier, Ernie Caceres, Muggsy Spanier, Zutty Singleton, Henry "Red" Allen, Sidney De Paris, "Pops" Foster) and I must admit I had no idea Noble Sissle's band was this good).
Well, even if the selection could have been better, this is a great intro to Bechet's soprano-sax and clarinet opus from 1923-1947; the earliest recording being Waller-Williams' "Wild Cat Blues" ... Read More:

I've played this CD over and over a few hundred times. I still love it. Dr. Michael White and his group are super. If you like New Orleans jazz, you'll want this CD.
Release Date October 25, 1990
This is a great CD. One major weakness in amazon,s jazz
listings is failure to give personnel on other CDs. I
got another Le Grand CD that did not list players and got
an easy listening CD that had nothing to do with jazz.
Release Date June 08, 2004
A perfect jazz album. Beautiful songs, a terrific rhythm section (especially Eddie Locke, longtime drummer for both Coleman Hawkins and Roy Eldridge), and Warren Vache's sweet, sweet horn. This is "real" jazz, the way it used to be.
Release Date March 25, 1997
I am a contemporay jazz fan, and generally I am not exremely fond of older (more traditional or classic) jazz, but this is an excellent instrumental (non-vocal) and educational overview. The presentations of music from Scott Joplin to cutting edge jazz is inspirational. Additionally, this CD is 'enhanced' with neat computer audio and video files, bringing the history of jazz alive. Finally, I am very fond of the GRP label and the newer label N2K is also under the influence of the same jazz greats, Rosen & Grusin.
