CD-Charts Music : Hello, Dolly!

Hello, Dolly!

CD-Charts > Music > Dixieland
by: Louis Armstrong

Release Date November 07, 2000
Released in 1964, this hep cat album from a 60+-year-old American legend featured the title song that pushed the Beatles off their #1 perch on the charts at the peak of their popularity. A must-have album in which Satchmo shows the world he's still got it by blaring that famous trumpet to then-current Broadway tunes, old standards and pop hits. Listen for his inside joke "broken record" that only us "old" people can grin at in this digital age. I dare anyone to groove to "Jeepers Creepers" and not find themselves snapping their fingers!
PS: An earlier review mentions missing/out-of-sequence songs. I did not find this to be the case on my "black and white" (and red)CD, but perhaps that is the case on the CD with the "color" album cover.

Release Date June 08, 2004
I purchased the 1921 version of a collection of CD's because I was looking for a particular song. It was a song that was written on the day my Mom was born. On the same day in 1921. And Amazon.com found 'Make Believe And Smile-1921'. The song I was searching for was on the CD, along with many others that she hasn't heard for a long time. So I appreciate Amazon.com's assistance in coming through for me with such quick response.

Release Date November 20, 2000
This album is definitely a must have for Prima fans or just plain old swing fans. A great collection of wild, wacky songs that causes your heart to do the jitterbug occupy the otherwise barren space on this spectacular CD. If you like to party and require some accompaniment (even if you don't) this is the music for you, and that's a fact Jack!

by: Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Release Date April 14, 1998
This is jazz at its best. NOT Kenny G, Not the frantic bop of the fifties or Miles Davis's brews. Other so-called jazz artists may be good, but this is how it started--this is REAL jazz. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band plays this American music as it sounded in the early 20th century. The group plays with a tight ensemble sound, but leaves plenty of room for very tasteful solos. Unlike other "dixieland" bands, they are not rushed... each piece is played at a relaxed tempo, which allows the listener to appreciate each and every note without feeling as if the band is dragging. The tunes on this disc are excellent as well. When I bought the disc, I was familiar with about half of the pieces, but now they're all special to me. Technically, the ... Read More:

CD-Charts > Music > Dixieland
by: Sidney Bechet

Release Date April 11, 2000
Finally, we have all of Sidney Bechet-Muggsy Spanier Big Four recordings on CD! That alone makes this CD collectible. In addition, there are two of his Bechet One-Man Band recordings, in which Sidney plays several instruments in addition to the soprano and clarinet (priceless). Art Hodes' Blue Note Jazzmen, featuring Wild Bill Davison, also make this a good selection. Some of the other recordings are O.K. at best--such as Bob Wilbur's Wildcats (Bechet's student).

Sings Back Through the Years: A Centennial Celebration

CD-Charts > Music > Dixieland
by: Louis Armstrong

Release Date March 21, 2000
This is great. I've bit a bit leery about buying "old" recordings, because on CD the quality is usually poor... they simply didn't have the recording technology back them, and the old recordings are generally static-y. This one is excellent. The songs are great, Louis' gravelly voice is somehow soothing and never tiring. Even us "young" listeners (I'm 37) can enjoy this one!
