This CD has the cutest little song on it: "Leave Them Boys Alone" by Hank Williams, Jr., Waylon Jennings, and Ernest Tubb. All three of these singers are my favorites of my favorites. I can listen to that song over and over.

The cover photo looks like a cozy country house. Who needs a mansion when we can have a cozy country cabin? I'd love to live in something like that.

"Gonna Go Huntin' Tonight" is also one of my favorites on this CD.

I glommed onto this CD 10 years ago, when it was selling for $10-- I thought it was a bargain then, and at Amazon's price, it's even more so now! I was only looking for the hard-to-find Ballad of Paladin. I was delighted to discover it came with a whole passel of other treasures as well! (Is any record collection truly complete without Fess Parker?) A lot of these are those great old country-western ballads that people of my age pretended not to like--they were the old man's music, not rock n' roll. But secretly, we knew they were great stuff! My only caveat: the version of Big Bad John is still the "clean" one. It was 35 years later when someone alerted me that Jimmy originally cut one where he described BBJ as "one hell of a man." The versatility and talent of this artist is second to none. He has a cajun country twist mixed with Jimmy Buffet and it really works. I have trouble deciding where to keep my copy...in the car, the house stereo or kitchen. It is truly one of my very favorites, and I have a wide range of music appreciation.

IF SOMEBODY PUT TOGETHER THIS COMPILATION OF SONGS FOR A MASTER'S THESIS ON THE HISTORY OF WESTERN SWING MUSIC, THEY COULDN'T HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB THAN THIS. THIS IS A FOUR CD BOX SET WITH INFORMATIVE BOOKLETS IN EACH CD WITH LOTS OF PICTURES AND BIOGRAPHICAL INFO. ADMITTEDEDLY, THE EARLIEST STUFF DOESN'T QUITE "SWING" AS MUCH AS THE LATER RECORDINGS, BUT THE MUSIC IS STILL GREAT AND IT IS INTERESTING TO HEAR HOW THE MUSIC EVOLVES OVER TIME. A BARGAIN PRICE, I HAVE A FEW BOX SETS IN THIS SERIES (THE PROPPER LABEL) AND THEY ARE ALL FANTASTIC PRODUCTIONS AND VALUES.
