Success proved elusive for Earl Thomas Conley throughout the seventies although he derived encouragement as a songwriter when others had hits with his songs, especially when Conway Twitty recorded one of them (This time I've hurt her more than she loves me) and had a number one country hit with it.

When Earl finally made it as a singer, he achieved phenomenal success in the American country charts, with eighteen number one hits, three number two hits and six other major country hits. I bought this CD, and also another, to gather most of the older, and his later too, songs which caused me to become a Marty Robbins fan, per se'... I like the western trilogy songs like El Paso and Faleena, etc., but really enjoy the songs such as Honky Tonk Man and Some Memories, etc., as well... And who could forget Padre... Just another purchase I made to which I was very happy with... Thanks!

I have always thought Don Williams deserved a lot more credit than what he got. He has a great country music voice. Don can make any song his own. He's that good. And in 2000, he was awarded a collection in UMG's series '20th Century Masters.'

This is the best of Williams' MCA years. How does this collection measure up?

-Every Williams hit on the MCA label is here. 'I Believe In You,' 'Tulsa Time,' and ''Til The Rivers Run Dry' all appear on this set.
-THE SOUND QUALITY IS EXCELLENT!!!

For The Record(called Essential Alabama in its most recent incarnation) is a collection of Alabama's #1 hits. The members of Alabama(lead singer/guitarist Randy Owen, lead guitarist Jeff Cook, bass player Teddy Gentry, and drummer Mark Herndon) paid their dues for years before finally hitting it big in 1980. Indeed, Alabama made history, being the first country band to make a big splash on the music charts. I was a fan of Alabama back in the early '80s, and although this collection includes only the band's #1 songs, it still is a great record.

I didn't realize T.G. Sheppard had all these hits - this CD took me back quite a few years and brought back some great memories. Favorite tracks are "Somewhere Down The Line," "Only One You," and "I'll Be Coming Back For More." Great CD - listen to it often.

If you haven't already, please disregard the 1st online review - the person who wrote it is actually giving CAPITOL RECORDS a 2-star rating, NOT Chris Ledoux. Granted, these songs have all been released previously (which is obvious if you read the list of songs included in the compilation), but obviously Chris won't be releasing any new songs, since he's deceased.

Naturally, we in Wyoming are extremely proud of our down-home boy, so I might sound biased. I also have copies of every tape & CD ever released, but this is still a great gift for anyone who loves C/W, rockabilly, rodeo, lighthearted songs about being a cowboy, or great ballads. You won't find anything better in the above music categories.
