I listened to this "album" practically non-stop in the 70's when I lived in Colorado, spent a lot of time travelling around the State and camping. I knew every song by heart. I searched for many years for this album and was told it was out of print. Undaunted, I continued my search and WOW! I found it! Since I got this music back, my heart sings again. It is early Michael Murphy and just really fun, sweet and a blast to listen to! Favorites are "Geronimo's Cadillac," "Calico Silver," "Michaelangelo," "Crack-Up In Las Cruces," who am I kidding - every song is my favorite. Anyone who things Michael Murphy is just a country western singer, should listen! Especially those of you who love a good folk art tale.

As a child I was given the record and loved it. Years later I used it in my kindergarten classroom at Christmas. My school building burned to the ground on Christmas Day of 1983. I was so devastated to loose the record in the fire. I was thrilled when I saw it available on Amazon. The CD is so great. It brought back so many memories. Thanks so much.

Well, I was disappointed to find out when I received this CD that it wasn't a rerelease of the original album. I saw the title and purchased it without looking at the song contents. OH well, it is still a great album, just not what I was looking for, but I will keep it as I love Dottie West! I hope they eventually do a rerelease of the original album, cause when they do I will buy it...but until then I will make sure to view song contents from now on so I don't do this again!

Mama's Hungry Eyes: A Tribute to Merle Haggard

Virtually all tribute albums featuring other artists recroding songs made famous by the recipient of the tribute contain at least one dud and a couple of near duds. That is not the case with Mama's Hungry Eyes, which is the reason I rank it as the greatest tribute album. In fact, a couple (used in the country colloquial to mean any number from 2 to 4) of the versions here I prefer over Merle's, and a couple more I rate as fully equal with Merle's.

Brooks and Dunn provide a rousing, rocked-up version of 'Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down.' I am not the biggest fan of the duo, but I say this song is better than at least half of those on the duo's pair of Greatest Hits albums. Chris has done some remakes of a few of the songs on this album but these are the originals ..recorded in the seventies and early eighties.
My personnal favorite on this CD is Goodnight Loving Trail. I've been listening to country music goin on 30 years and this song is a bit different than any i've heard and that includes Strait, Jones, Haggard, and Willie.
I like Chris's releases from the 90's ,they are a bit more polished but if you collect, than get this one.

Ditto on the pairing of these albums! Would have been better to pair ROCKY MOUNTAIN MUSIC album (1976) with EDDIE RABBITT.

How could they possibly leave off "Tulahoma Dancing Pizza Man"?
