Before I set down my comments on this 3-disc set I read carefully through the other reviews and while couldn't disagree with the first few 5-star posts, I had made up my own mind that this didn't quite fill the bill for that maximum rating. I had also begun to form the essence of my review when I came to that by Greg Brady, and wouldn't you know it, he essentially (no pun intended) took the words right out of my mouth regarding this so-called "essential" collection. One of at least three on the market purporting to be the essential Johnny Cash collection.

Although this Box Set seems to be expensive, however, there are so many old songs that I could not find in any other Albums of Glen Campbell, I have been looking, searching for a long time. This Box Set is unique, all the songs that I love are all here. It is a definite good buy as far as I am concern.

Following the huge success of their second album, Feels so right, came this classic album. It yielded three country number one hits. The brilliant title track takes a nostalgic look at mountain music but it is a misleading album title - this is definitely an eighties country album. Take me down is a cover of a song by pop group Exile, who later switched to country and became Alabama's main rivals for a while. The other number one hit, Close enough to perfect, would have been an accurate album title.
Elsewhere, this album contains many excellent songs, both ballads and up-tempo, most notably Green river (a cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival classic), Words at twenty paces and the closing Gonna have a party.

A long-time Ian & Sylvia and Ian Tyson fan, I discovered this CD quite by accident. One look at the roster was enough to get me to purchase this unheard, and besides, it was being sold as overstock -- only a year old (!), so it was cheap! Luckily, the music isn't. Gold and silver all the way. The other reviewers here have already said much that I would have, so I'll be brief.

First, Jennifer Warnes makes one of those rare, really great covers that tops the original, so I'll add my vote to the others,' who singled this one out. When sadness is this utterly beautiful, who can resist? "Blue Mountains of Mexico" is painfully nostalgic for me, too, as it reminds me of the American Southwest where I spent my first four decades. I got a LP "Hawaii's calling Me" from my uncle as as a 14 year old boy, and even I was only 14 year, I loved this music. Marty Robbins was normally a country & western singer, but I think he sung the hawaian style very good. Somebody stole my LP, and I have been looking around for many years trying to find a LP or a CD with this music. Finally I found it, and on the CD is all the songs from the two hawaian music LP's Marty Robbins recorded.
