Songs of Inspiration, Vol. 2

This album has some thirteen songs of inspiration, put together with that great Alabama style. Now, Volume 1 relied heavily on those great old hymns, which was wonderful. Volume 2 has some hymns, such as Church in the Wildwood, Will the Circle be Unbroken and Love Lifted Me (which is worth the purchase price of the album!), but moves out into more contemporary songs, with songs such as If I Could Hear My Mother Pray.

Overall, I found this to be a very good album. It's not the pure collection of old hymns that Volume 1 was, but it is still a wonderful and, yes, inspirational album to listen to. I highly recommend this album!

This is one of my favorite albums I have ever listened to. It is one of those that actually gets better every single time you play it. The disappointing reviews given by other reviewers simply revolve around the basis of the album not being "traditional bluegrass"- that is not all bad in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I like traditional bluegrass- but let's be honest here: traditional bluegrass never really took firm root by today's standards because all of the songs sounded the same and you grow tired of, or at the very least yearn for something more, listening to the same timing and monotone keyed harmonies. Too much goodness for one disk! Impeccable harmony, mastery of mountain strings (fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitar)highlight this second volume. Cynthia Clawson's pure rendition of "Rock of Ages" was a highlight, as was the Lewis Family's hilarious rendition of "I Plan to Meet You There".

In the days I was purchasing mostly cassettes so I can listen to them on my Walkman (the 1980s/90 miserable equivalent to the iPod), I bought this CD back in it's heyday because of the bonus song.

To this day, this is my favorite CD by Steven and his others just don't measure up. I have always enjoyed Steven's music which is contemporary and mades "religious" music more appealing to me back in my younger days. This album seems to find the perfect balance between Pop and Christian with some acoustic work and without the cheesiness that is evident on previous albums.

This album has more ballads with very meaningful lyrics than uptempo and so that may be a drawback for those wanting more upbeat music. In a way, I like that about this ... Read More:
