Bruce and the gang sound like they had a whale of a time making this album. It's great fun to listen to in the car.
My one criticism would be that Bruce tends to use a phony southern accent when he sings. Oh, and "Shenendoah," as others have pointed out, is the low point.

Kathy Mattea has led us listeners back in time into the coal mines of West Virginia and Kentucky, her voice more a laser beam than a headlamp, guiding us through tunnels of love and birth, poverty and affuency, and finally, death itself in her acapella version of BLACK LUNG. We become haunted by the era, both in time and place, each track a corridor revealing ghostly familiar faces; simple people whose dreams and survival were inextricably tied. To say this album is overwhelmingly nostalgic or a definitive track of (her) interpretive tunes would be a gross understatement: it is itself, a breath of coal dust, a gasp for life, and then...nothing. May this collection be interred in that cemetery in Harlan County where the tombstone reads "you'll ... Read More:

Alison's perfect and soft voice is exceptional! My favorite song on this album is "When You Say Nothing at All" so there was no hesitation in chosing this song for our wedding. As I walked down the aisle to start our beautiful poolside country wedding, Alison's perfect voice (in surroundsound) floated across the wedding guests, into lush green pasture and seemed to impact even the horses (or maybe the horses were just looking for their dinner). When I reached the rose-adorned wedding arch, I turned to see just about everyone with tears running down their cheeks - Alison's performance of this song really brought out the emotion in everyone. Even the big ol' cowboys were doing their best to choke back their emotions. Followed the perfect ceremony ... Read More:

I am a big fan of OCMS, however I had never seen this album before? Thus, when I ordered it last week, I was under the assumption that it was a new release. After listening to it I got on Amazon to see what kind of reviews it had gotten, but I was surprised to find that it was released BEFORE OCMS & Big Iron World. I am not sure how I overlooked the release date when I purchased it, but I am very glad I ordered it. Any true OCMS fan should add this one to their collection. I wish to note songs that have been remade since this album, as well as a few songs that never made the newer albums.

"Raise a Ruckus Tonight" is a quick and fun song that pretty much tells you to jump on board.

I just purchased this CD and abosolutly love it. Every song has it's own unique sound. Patty's voice is wonderful. Most CD's I buy have one or two songs that I can skip over but not this CD. I love every song on it.

We wore out our vinyl copy and needed to replace it. This is classic Band with some welcome additions. The "greatest hits" releases just don't do this group justice. Robbie Robertson is and always will be wonderful.

Paisley is a great musician, one of the more witty song writters around. So not only do you get to listen to good music, but if you pay attention to the lyrics your will end up laughing also. He is a better guitarist than he gets credit for.
Release Date August 19, 2008
As others have said, this is a great CD+DVD set. You get a full concert DVD in 5.1, in 16x9 widescreen format and you get an audio CD of the same concert. Both CD and DVD are well produced. Bonus features include a great documentary and little slices of time with each band member showing how they play select parts... I just can't say enough positive about this set, I wish every worship pastor/record artist would put out a package like this.

Court and Spark not only ranks among my three favorite Joni Mitchell albums (the other two being Blue and Hejira), it is arguably Joni Mitchell's best album. Certainly it has been her most commercially successful. Its 1974 release marked a radical departure for Mitchell, infusing her definitive folk-rock sound with elements of pop without any compromises. In many ways, Court and Spark is Mitchell's watershed album, with a perfect arrangement of meticulously-crafted pop songs and Mitchell classics ("Help Me," "Free Man In Paris," and "Raised On Robbery"). Her hit single "Help Me" became Mitchell's first and only Top 10 single. The album features an impressive list of backing musicians: Tom Scott on woodwinds and reeds; Joe Sample on electric piano; David ... Read More:
