It's always good to hear Waylon, & this greatest hits covers most stuff. I would have liked to have had more examples of his work with Chet & some with Jesse, but what are ya gonna do. The man sang with the voice of God, a powerful virile, awe-inspiring baritone, yet full of tremulous emotion-sometimes wracked with the pain of life's mistakes & broken hearts, often self depracating humor. Any one who knew him or saw him in concert knew he was funnier then the hell he often sang about, a trait he shared with Elvis. If you only have room for one Waylon cd on your shelves, this is the one to own

... especially like the cover of the Cure's Just Like Heaven. It's country in the way Neil Young is country (i.e., not really)

On initial listening my thoughts were that these guys sounded like a mixture of The Band and Wilco but that is unfair. Certainly there are references to these great bands and Dylan, Neil Young and Randy Newman but only references not copying. Everyone is influenced by something and you might as well use the best.
This is original and fresh music in the Americana vain(for want of a better description). Thankfully the producer has allowed the band's playing to remain fresh and he has not overproduced this collection of great music that sounds live with strong accordian and keyboard playing that floats about the room as I listen to this wonderfull collage of sound.
I hope these guys can keep up this standard, if they can they will be ... Read More:

Now I never liked country till I heard Garth Brooks "The Thunder Rolls" song and I thought that was amazing till I heard this album from Tim McGraw...he blew my one fave country song to smitherines with an awesome display of what country should be...now I will not claim to be a huge country music fan nor pretend I know whats hot or not ....but this album takes you everywhere on the emotional map...

It seems like each and everyday Ben Harper's music continues to grow on me. I have known his music for a decade but didn't really become a fan until a couple of years ago. He is trully one of the most creative artists of his time. He can go from rock, soul, funk, R&B, gospal, and even bluegrass over a course of an album and it never sounds forced or chessy.
Lifeline is a fantastic album. "Into the Colors" is a great first single and the album is packed with great tracks throuhout. If you are a Ben Harper fan then you will not be disappointed with this purchase. This is one of the best albums in the music industry over the past few years.

Sometimes it's difficult to rate a genre of music that I don't normally listen to. But be rest assured, the quality of musicianship on Strange Weirdos is unmatched. I heard "You Can't Fail Me Now" on the radio before I even saw Knocked Up. For me, this is the flagship piece in the album. Patrick Warren's subtle string arrangement at the bridge is so gorgeous that I rushed out to buy the cd. Now "gorgeous string arrangement" is a phrase that is oft abused, but you won't make that mistake here: the stateliness of the quartet is the core of that which makes perfect unions.
Though "Ypsilanti" (an instrumental) and Strange Weirdos incorporate the same string quartet and similar arrangements, "You Can't Fail Me Now" is the track when everything ... Read More:

This is still one of my favorite albums of all time, and I just discovered how good it sounds in headphones (great stereo spread), however I am listening to Oh lonesome me, and it is in mono-I think I remember that from when I had it on LP. Anyway, I don't think old Neil did any better than here. The songs are all great, and his voice is in perfect shape!

Court and Spark not only ranks among my three favorite Joni Mitchell albums (the other two being Blue and Hejira), it is arguably Joni Mitchell's best album. Certainly it has been her most commercially successful. Its 1974 release marked a radical departure for Mitchell, infusing her definitive folk-rock sound with elements of pop without any compromises. In many ways, Court and Spark is Mitchell's watershed album, with a perfect arrangement of meticulously-crafted pop songs and Mitchell classics ("Help Me," "Free Man In Paris," and "Raised On Robbery"). Her hit single "Help Me" became Mitchell's first and only Top 10 single. The album features an impressive list of backing musicians: Tom Scott on woodwinds and reeds; Joe Sample on electric piano; David Crosby and Graham ... Read More:
