Having listened to EG for years and years and also seen her live more than once, I found this album to be her most poignant and conscious to date. With intelligence and passion, she is writing songs here which combine to decry the state of the world, not simplistically but with complex and thoughtful lyrics, yet also to endorse some small hope. The lyrics coupled with the very somber and gorgeous accompaniments really brought me to tears at times. She also really gets the difficulties of women in the world today, yet does not press. I was intrigued also by her echoes of old fifties tunes and lyrics which she has revised ironically for our times with very different and much more sobering takes. I could not find this CD anywhere and as the one song was performed at my son's wedding, he wanted to get it for his new wife!

It's Too Late To Stop Now: Live (2CD)

This album is so great because all of Morrison's familiar gems gain something by these live performances. The band is tight, the audience appreciative and Van is firing on all cylinders. Old favourites like Into The Mystic and These Dreams Of You take on new rhythmic and vocal dimensions whilst I Believe To My Soul is a breathtaking R&B workout.

I honestly prefer this magnificent live version of Here Comes The Night with its flowing violins, although the original remains a classic too. Another stunning performance is Gloria, which I first heard in Patti Smith's version, but this one is amazingly gripping and powerful, as demonstrated by the enthusiastic reaction of the audience.

This box set gives you all studio and live albums in one, compact and uniform looking box set. CCR has many good songs, all of their popular ones are very good, but there are lots of other good ones that are not so popular. It comes with 6 discs. One disc is pre-creedence material that is actually very worthwhile. Two of the discs are kind of a live version of songs. The set also comes with a 20-30 page booklet with all kinds of commentary on what CCR was and how they came to be.
To me, discovering CCR was like finding something new and fresh when looking back in time. They are a definitive band of the 60s and 70s and I really can't understand why the radio stations I hear don't play more of them...

On initial listening my thoughts were that these guys sounded like a mixture of The Band and Wilco but that is unfair. Certainly there are references to these great bands and Dylan, Neil Young and Randy Newman but only references not copying. Everyone is influenced by something and you might as well use the best.

This is original and fresh music in the Americana vain(for want of a better description). Thankfully the producer has allowed the band's playing to remain fresh and he has not overproduced this collection of great music that sounds live with strong accordian and keyboard playing that floats about the room as I listen to this wonderfull collage of sound.

Released the year I was born, 1963, "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" became the album which best represents a turbulent time in America. Put this cd on, for those of us who spent at least a part of our lives in those stormy years, the album evokes a lot of memories, and a lot of feelings, particularly about the America we could've become before Kennedy fell, before Viet Nam, before King fell, before we lost our innocense.

The first track "Blowin' in the Wind" became the anthem of the day, redone and popularized by Peter, Paul, and Mary. Yet the original carries such weight that did not carry over.
