I have been searching for this album for 5 years. 5 years ago, I was on Semester at Sea and was spending one of the many long nights at sea (between ports) exchanging music with friends. My friend from Japan gave me several of her favorite Bossa Nova cds, most of them compilations. Of course we didnt have any internet so all the albums that i ripped to my pc said " various artists, track 1 ect.." Well one compilation which is one of my favorites to this day contatined my favorite that I now know is from this album "Saudade Vem Correndo" Wow Maria Toledo's vocals are so... indescribably saudade.
If anyone knows where I can find more Maria Toledo please let me know. For others who want to hear the other songs on the mystery ... Read More:

I asked for and received this disk as a holiday gift without listening to it first, as I had heard that Julie had a sexy voice and a fantastic delivery. I was not disappointed. Almost all the the songs on the disk are smoldering slow tempo.
The exception is the upbeat, mid-tempo "Daddy," a perfectly-phrased, playful standout. "Daddy" is not sung about her father (unlike "My Heart Belongs to Daddy"), but to the generous man in a woman's life.
This is for quiet, sensuous late nights. Unfortunately, Ms. London did little recording after the late 60's, by which time lounge music had lost its appeal to younger listeners. If this collection is any indication, she leaves behind an impressive body of work. (Adapted from my review ... Read More:

This is simply Bill Evans' best album or at least I think it is and it also Evan's debut on Warner Bros. Records.
There is such sadness and beauty on display here. I would compare this album with Evan's last album for Fantasy called "I Will Say Goodbye," but for some reason I find this album more haunting.
Anyone with a soul will appreciate this music no matter what style it is. I happen to be a jazz musician, so naturally I'm going to listen to jazz music, but I really think this album would be appreciated by anyone.
The music speaks for itself, so I won't comment too much about it, but I can say this album was well recorded and the remaster sounds great. Very clean and articulate.

This is the most consistently listenable Chet Baker album that I've heard, and I have several. I knew that Baker was still able to perform in the last years of his life (I've seen the 1988 documentary about him, "Let's Get Lost"), but I was stunned by how good he is in this, his last recorded concert. (He died two weeks after this 1988 live show, which was recorded in Germany.) His skill and maturity as an artist (Chet was never mature as a person) are on display. For example, his fifties version of "I Get Along Without You Very Well" seemed mannered and somewhat precious and is hard for me to listen to, but here it is one of my favorite songs on the album. How did he do that? If you know to listen for it (now that I've told you) you might very occassionally notice that he sings ... Read More:

I was perhaps 13 years old when I bought this album--Brubeck my intro to jazz. His jazz impressions of New York became mine, and when I visited NYC several times in my youth, I saw it through his music.
In the last four years I have been fortunate to see him in concert twice: NYC, Carnegie Hall just to see him. As a 'grownup' my first impressions of his music walked with me every step of the way. ...and today! He, the quartet played in my small town to cap off our town's college Bach Festival.
Such an intimate venue, a performance that surpassed the one at Carnegie Hall by leaps and bounds. Mr. Brubeck is now slow to walk, slow to speak, however, his fingers know no age...have no sense of time other than that in music. His fingers glide over the keyboard without ... Read More:

I agree with the reviewer below me, the sound of this remastered CD is excellent and perfect for this kind of choral jazz music. I have to say that it took me a while to really get into these guys but now I am completely hooked! To me, there has never been a group that sounds quite like these cats. I have never heard the great Percy Heath sound as good as he does on this recording. It was an absolutely, incredible performance! I'm blown away everytime I hear this album and decide to turn up the bass a bit. Man, it's a trip to see how fast and tight he is. However, the whole group led by legendary Milt Jackson really is as close to perfection as your going to get in this recording. I would have purchased this CD just to hear the song "Django"! Also, their version of "Autumn in New York" gives me ... Read More:

Bill Evans is my hands-down, absolute favorite pianist, and maybe my favorite jazz musician ever. I love Marian McPartland's show, and I was lucky enough to catch her in concert last year. Once I discovered that Evans had been on McPartland's show- well, how could I not buy this disc? One of the best of her shows, this is an hour of sheer enjoyment and an education into Evan's thinking about music. Ten stars.

The Brubeck quartet of the 1950s through the mid-1960s is possibly the most popular jazz quartet of all time, and this DVD is a wonderful representation of the group at its best. Five songs were recorded in a Belgian TV studio in 1964 and five were performed for a packed auditorium in Berlin in 1966 and recorded for TV. Judging from this and the other offerings in the Jazz Icons series, Europeans in the 1960s were seeing far more American jazz on TV than Americans were.
Watching jazz artists perform conveys subtleties that are lost in audio-only presentations. In this collection, we witness four gentlemen who clearly enjoy what they're doing together. Brubeck can be seen looking attentively, even admiringly, at the other members of the quartet (especially Paul Desmond) as they solo. Desmond, who was ... Read More:
