I bought "A Larum" solely based on a magazine review, because I thought it sounded intriguing and I was in the mood for something completely different. How lucky can you get when you buy a pig in a poke! I started listening and haven't stopped -- it's that fascinating. The layerings and combinations of guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, cello, accordion, harmonica, all remind me partly of early Poco, partly of Irish folk, partly of back-porch music such as used to be collected by folk musicologists, as do the slightly stretched and sometimes off-key vocals -- all of which make the music feel unaffected, not over-produced. Then the 12-string I caught sneaking around teased at my memory until I finally recalled Leo Kottke, an all-time favorite. ... Read More:

I love everything Melissa Etheridge has ever done. If put out an album of her simply singing the phone book I would buy it and probably love it. Her songs have been the sound track to my coming out and to my first serious relationship and then breakup. On the other hand, Melissa's music as always shied away from one topic which is very important to my life, faith.
in Awakening Melissa blew me away. Not only are these song beautiful and powerful but she also speaks out about issues of love, hate, faith, hope and just life.
This is one of her very best.

I've had this album for over a year and played it over and over. Took it places with me, and now I find the case is empty. Must have left it somewhere. Checked high and low. May be in a friend's car somewhere. I can't wait any longer, so I'm going to buy it again.
My 20-something son thinks I'm nuts to buy CDs at all, but what can I say . . . at least I've dumped all of my casettes. This is one of those albums you can listen to all the way through, every song, and not want to skip ahead over the three or four you don't like. It's even, thoroughly enjoyable listening music. And every now and again it gets me up dancing.
You won't regret buying this jewel. Can't wait for his new one coming in October.

Halfway between Stevie Nicks and Kate Bush, she finally found the way to demonstrate how good she is. Almost as good as brother and mum.

Sometimes it's difficult to rate a genre of music that I don't normally listen to. But be rest assured, the quality of musicianship on Strange Weirdos is unmatched. I heard "You Can't Fail Me Now" on the radio before I even saw Knocked Up. For me, this is the flagship piece in the album. Patrick Warren's subtle string arrangement at the bridge is so gorgeous that I rushed out to buy the cd. Now "gorgeous string arrangement" is a phrase that is oft abused, but you won't make that mistake here: the stateliness of the quartet is the core of that which makes perfect unions.
Though "Ypsilanti" (an instrumental) and Strange Weirdos incorporate the same string quartet and similar arrangements, "You Can't Fail Me Now" is the track when everything - lyrics, ... Read More:

I was not really familiar with her music befor purchasing the CD, but I enjoyed it and glad I sprang for the CD. She does not look like a blues singer, but is a very good one.

Wow. Where do you bein with this? How can you even put into words what this album has done not only for music, but for society in general? Without getting too far into the non-musical relevance of Dylan's 1965 masterpiece, it is important to atleast realize that this album began the phase of Dylan's career that essentially turned the music world upside down and inspired generations of musicians, poets, and artists of all sort who came after...
Musically, this album marks the transition of Bob Dylan from a clever folk singer into a rock icon. About half the tracks here are the acoustic folk Dylan everyone was accostomed to, and the other half are the recently plugged-in, electric Dylan that everyone saw for the first time at Newport. The album kicks off ... Read More:

Eva Cassidy may be the best the world has ever known for the type of singing she did. "What a wonderful world" and "Over the rainbow" are two songs that I could listen to her sing everyday and never get tired of them or her. She is not your average everyday girl with a guitar. Don't think twice about buying anything she did. R. Lee Rochester, NY

Nothing to add really to all the glowing reviews here. I first heard them on a St Patricks Day special on TV and immediately bought the CD. The harmonies have the rich layers of the old Crosby Stills and Nash days but done in the Irish style that is foot-stomping, mournful, reflective, spiritual and ultimately triumphant. Just an incredible CD, you won't be disappointed.
