Enjoyed her first album. So I bought this one thinking it would be good as well. But, she's taken a bite out of the Racist/Political pie. Most of the songs take swipes at White Men and Conservative viewpoints. Same thing happened to Iris Dement when she compromised her style for her political viewpoints....She bombed. This is a stinker except for a select few including "All That You Have Is Your Soul".

Ten New Songs is a record that was co-written with Sharon Robinson. I think that it is a perfect match. Sharon Robinson plays all the instruments except Bob Metzger's guitar on "my secret life". I do agree that the heavy use of synths makes the record sterile. Instead I think the synths and Cohens magic and magnificient blend and create a sound that is filled with sollace. The book-let is really nice. The cover is a little strange, but artistic without being annoying. The font sellected is easy on the eye and the font is easy to read.

In reviewing Bob Dylan's 1965 classic album Bringing All Back Home (you know, the one where he went electric) I noted that it seemed hard to believe now that both as to the performer as well as to what was being attempted that anyone would take umbrage at a performer using an electric guitar to tell a folk story (or any story for that matter). I further pointed out that it is not necessary to go into all the details of what or what did not happen with Pete Seeger at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 to know that one should be glad, glad as hell, that Bob Dylan continued to listen to his own drummer and carry on a career based on electronic music.
Others have, endlessly, gone on about Bob Dylan's role as the voice of his generation (and ... Read More:

Before I heard this album, I viewed Dylan as over rated and I did not understand what all the fuss was about. The main song I had heard before this was rainy day women with it's horrable lyrics "everybody must get stoned".
But this album made me realize what a genius, word smith Dylan really was. Many of the songs on it are the best versions including: Don't Think Twice, Blowing in the Wind, Chimes of Freedom, Hard rain and so forth. This is a MUST have Dylan compilation and it stands as my favorite!

This is a wonderful portfolio of what Mark Knofler can do musically. No two songs are alike and the music covers everthing from ballad to blues. Definitely worth the price of purchase.

This singer is almost unknown here in Europe and this time it's a real MISS-OUT on something great. The rave reviews do not lie. Linda Ronstadt is here singing beautiful tunes from great songwriters (Paul Anka, Phil Everly, Hank Williams and James Taylor, to name a few) and the country/pop tunes are immensely helped by wonderful arrangements. Just the guitar solo in the middle of "The Dark End Of The Street" is a reason enough to get this album. They say she has never surpassed "Heart Like a Wheel" with any other work. They're probably right. Maybe only Joni Mitchell with "Court and Spark" made something equally great in 1974.

I bought this CD based on the reviews and it was everything everyone said it was. I have older children that are in college and want the CD because when they listen to it with their brother, it's so relaxing. If you want gentle background music to lull your child to sleep, this is it. If you want to destress with soothing music, this is it. Excellent.

ESSENTIAL CD FOR A GUITARIST
Guitar playing does not get much better than this. A pure delight from start to finish, one of those CD you can play over and over and hear more and more amazing Rifts.

How does Mason Jennings do it? More specifically how does he deliver album after album of catchy, introspective, emotionally lived in folk songs that make you want to sing along even as they evoke strong emotions without ever resorting to cheap sentimentality? The answer is that he is a superbly gifted singer/songwriter who has been flying under the radar ever since his self titled debut album over a decade ago.
On his latest release, Mason once again delivers the goods. The songs are melodic and simple and can get stuck in your head for days. Lyrically, Jennings touches on themes he has visited before, love, faith, spiritual yearning and the need for human connection. He even tosses in some humor this time around with "Your New Man", a song in which ... Read More:

I have to say I'm really surprised that nobody else has complained about this but I felt the camera cuts were OBNOXIOUSLY frequent to the point that I honestly can't watch the dvd. It sounds ridiculous but I actually recorded the audio into my computer so I can just listen to the concert. The camera cuts to a different performer an average of once every bar through the entire concert and it is common as the intensity picks up for the camera to cut as frequently as every beat. We have to be talking thousands of cuts over the length of the performance. Do we need this? I think the average jazz fan has a longer attention span than most; why do producers always feel the need to "inject" excitement into live music dvd's when the good performers (like these guys) can do that themselves? ...
