Berry Gordy, Jr. and Motown were incredibly busy in the sixties. The enormous task of spinning so many plates at one time would be impossible today. From recruiting talent (singers, songwriters, musicians) to recording to all the legal paperwork involved in running a not-so-small business must have weighed heavy. Despite all of this, 1967 was another banner year for recorded output at Motown.
Besides the hits (Jimmy Mack, I Was Made To Love Her, Bernadette, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, I Wish It Would Rain) there are surprising number of non-hits here. All songs pass the strict Motown quality control, however. I was interested in the rare b-sides by Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations and Four Tops but found Jr. Walker ... Read More:

These were some great songs that took you back in time whether you were a kid or an full grown adult shaking it up at the clubs. I love good old fashion 70's music.
Release Date November 30, 1993
This cd is a timeless classic, with artists such as 'Noel,' and 'TKA.' I discoverd Freestyle music not long ago and am fully aware that it was particulary popular in the 80's, appealing to a vast Latian audiance.
This cd is great for anyone who likes 80's dance music. It great to have acsess to such cds as in England the music is often dull. 80's American music is alot more 'up beat' and 'exciting' and this cd is a taste of what was and is missing today!

Music was what i expected; oldschool love songs. I searched everywhere for this CD, but Amazon was cheapest avaliable; and i got it new. Thanks

Hmm...where to begin? The concepts behind this set come from a wide array of viewpoints. OK, so this was going to be a collection of some of the finest examples of `60s soul music; that decade in mind was and still is, to soul fans and historians alike, the heyday of that genre. The `60s was a time of radical revolution in both social and musical aspects. Socially, the civil rights movement as well as the youth of the country crying out to be heard in favor of peace and justice, and the simple yet individually complicated love lives and other emotions of everyone. Musically? That's where all the aforementioned could be expressed with such true-to-life depth. Soul music did all that; every emotion and feeling that the whole population, young and old, black and ... Read More:

This has got to be one of my favorite "kick back with no stress" albums. It's so mellow and smoothe that I envision being in a cool lounge just chillaxin' with a martini in my hand. A must have!
Release Date June 12, 1990
The first and best of Rhino's "Disco Years" compilations. "Turn the Beat Around" offers 16 dance tracks ranging from Van McCoy's "The Hustle" to The Trammps' "Disco Inferno." Notable artists include KC & The Sunshine Band, Rose Royce and Thelma Houston. All that's missing are Donna Summer and Chic (both featured in later Rhino volumes). Though a memorable time capsule, you should look elsewhere for extended club mixes - preferably Rebound's excellent "Disco Nights" series.

Having been born and raised in Columbus during the 60's and 70's all I can say is that I'm flabbergasted. This music creates a visceral sensation that takes me back to the day when Bill Moss (The man with the red hot sauce) along with motivational speaker Les Brown (The man about town) were the voices of WVKO radio. Now living in Los Angeles after thirty years I thought I would never hear the sounds of "Johnson, Hawkins, Tatum & Durr" or "Elijah & the Ebonies" again. I feel like I'm crusin' down old Mt. Vernon Avenue again! Great CD.

Hard to ask for much more - 45+ killer funk & soul tracks from the early 1970's. There's a few movies missing (like Shaft) so while the movies might've been low budget and some forgotten - the music tracks and soundtrack are all classy, funky and deserve to be remembered. So, even if you don't recognize a lot of the names or the tracks, once you hear the tracks - you'll apprecaite a time when singers were true musicians.
