This is what's missing from most of todays sterilized corporate driven music. Its fun. Its on the edge. Its raw. But its addictively fun. You can hear James Brown directing the band in the middle of the songs with his usuall flare. You can hear musicians trying different riffs. You can be sure most tracks were recorded with a full band playing at once, getting into and changing their own groove. You can't help but move to the great baseline and rythyms. Its got that special electricity that you just don't find in most modern music. Great Great collection.

in many cases, films about the 1960s and 1970s have been a limited experience because they are coming from a limited perspective. and so much of the music of these decades gets ignored.

this is not the cast with 'dead presidents'. personally, i could have taken or left the story behind because i know that somewhere in this world there is an experience of this time that is more joyous than this. but before i get nailed, i want to say that the film is still visually exciting and is well acted.

Well..What would you think if you heard a Spanish version of Smokey Robinson's, "Being With You", or "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" with added Latin beats? Might make one think should I Doo Wop or Tango?

It's certainly a different kind of remix compilation but never the less I'm diggn' it for now, and tho I haven't yet, I will definitely purchase Volume One when I get around to it.

For the "Little Rich Kid" review below, he should realize that the tracks on this CD is what started it all for Hip Hop. "Little Rich Kid" is probably one of those youngsters that THINKS drinking Jin & Juice and acting like a thug is Hip Hop!

I realize that this stuff might be outdated to you young folks, but you must realize that these were the pioneers of Hip Hop. The newer generation (25 & under) won't relate to it, but you should give it the respect it deserves.

It figures that Ace of London would issue a volume on Jerry Ragovoy, another song-writing/producing legend after issuing one on his equally-renowned and occasional partner, Bert Berns (Piece Of My Heart was one co-written with Berns). As Al Kooper says in the voluminous liner notes that are a hallmark of anything issued by Ace, the duo were considered to be "...the white kings of soul music." As with the Berns volume, you likely came to this release while searching under a song title.

Whereas Berns died young (at age 39 on December 30, 1967), Jerry, born in Philadelphia in 1935, is still with us, although not as involved in music as much as was in the 1960s and early 1970s. His last major award came in 1973 when he received a Grammy for ... Read More:
