Let's hit the title highlights, because that's the main thing -- "Sherry," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," "Barbara-Ann," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Come a Little Closer," "A Teenager in Love," "16 Candles" and "There's a Moon Out Tonight."
To see this three-CD set in a store or read about it here and assume it's some sleazy cheesy bad recording out of one of those annoying infomercials would be to do oneself a disservice. The sound is great, the liner notes are extensive and reverential and the anthology's purpose is clearly to give listeners a good idea of the scene rather than a greatest hits collection.
Glad to own it.

Suzy Wallis, AKA Suzanne Wallach has the voice of a powerful angel. Like her bother's review, I grew up next door to Suzy and watched this young girl evolve into one of the most important musical influences in my life. She played guitar at a tender age of 13, and PLAYED the guitar, her voice a powerhouse of white soul depth and emotion, she was the Shirelle outsider, caught between the girl groups and the evolving sound of folk rock muse of those to come...Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, and Carole King. I always thought she just missed it, the limelight of real stardom. Her voice, evolved so much more than those who found a moment in the light. Suzanne continues performing, and has played with the likes of the Beach Boys, and Sergio Mendes. I would ... Read More:

I think we can all agree that the Motown label has produced some of the most timeless and incredible singles in the history of music. This collection packs 40 songs onto 3 CD's for about 25 bucks, leaving a LOT of room on each disc for more songs.
Now, what if I were to tell you that you could get 104 songs (that's 64 more songs, folks) on 4 CD's that includes everything here (except for "Reflections" and "Going to a Go-Go") for ONLY a few bucks more?
Exactly!! Go for the "Hitsville USA: The Motown Singles Collection 1959-1971" for about $31 on Amazon. If you're strapped there is also "Motown Classics: Gold" which also collects 40 classics on 2 packed CD's for 10-15 bucks LESS than this collection. Stay away from the "Playlist ... Read More:

This CD takes me back to my high school and college days in the 1980's. I love this CD and it has helped me get off the couch and start moving. A must have for anyone who wants to hold on to the 80's sound.

The 50 or so Motown songs that are drilled into your head are only about a seventh of this studio's output. Vol. 3 completes the Cellarful trilogy: songs that were either too aggressive to be promoted then, or else too beautiful. While songs on Vols. 1 and 2 might seem more immediate hits, Vol. 3 has stellar embryonics.

This is an O.K. soundtrack. I'm being generous with this rating. I really didn't like the soundtrack as a whole, but some songs were pretty good. A lot of the songs are pretty good, but not that rememberable. The only really really good song (in my own opinion) is Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody?" Now that song alone deserves 5 stars all the way! It's a shame she had to waste such a hit on this soundtrack. She shoulda kept that baby for her own album!!! The only song on this CD that I really can't stand is the All Saints version of "Lady Marmalade". Compared to the new Christina version, it reeks. Other than that, the soundtrack is o.k. overall. I wouldn't really reccomend this, I liked the movie better. BUT you should read the other reviews and get other opinions, ... Read More:
