This Vol. 4 box set features interesting facts about tracks & artists (including other working song titles & recording dates), singles scheduled for release, rare photos, and more. Here are just some worthy mentions:
- Opening essay by Janie Bradford
- "Thank You (For Loving Me All the Way)" may be Little Stevie Wonder's first recording in 1961.
- The Serenaders are the actual singers on "Say Say Baby", not the wrongly credited Creations.
- Smokey productions for Bobby Breen, Carolyn Crawford, Kim Weston ("My Guy" soundalike), Mickey McCullers aka McCullough, and The Contours.
- The Hornets. A-side "Give Me A Kiss" recorded as by Mike Varo (the little Italian footstomper heard on songs like "Where ... Read More:

This great 2-disc collection covers a 25 year-period, when small and large labels utilized Nashville studios for that special sound - something a little bigger, often with incongruous back-up ("pop" vocal groups, electric sitars) that worked every time. True, sometimes the instrumentation came off a bit "assembly line" - access Ruth Brown's fun remake of "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean" (love those oddball remakes!) - the guitar break is smoothly commercial, reminiscent of something like the pickin' on Elvis Presley's 1963 "Blue River", also done in Nashville.
Talking about remakes, it comes to mind that several 1950's rockers went to Nashville in the 1960's to recut their hits: the Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Little ... Read More:

The first and best of Rhino's "Disco Years" compilations. "Turn the Beat Around" offers 16 dance tracks ranging from Van McCoy's "The Hustle" to The Trammps' "Disco Inferno." Notable artists include KC & The Sunshine Band, Rose Royce and Thelma Houston. All that's missing are Donna Summer and Chic (both featured in later Rhino volumes). Though a memorable time capsule, you should look elsewhere for extended club mixes - preferably Rebound's excellent "Disco Nights" series.

This CD is a great mix of music from that era. It creates a nice mood for slow dancing with your honey. Enjoyed it very much.
Release Date April 16, 1995
This CD is awesome!!!! I love old school. That's when they were really making music. This CD is very nice and I'm glad I purchased it. It took me back in the day and brought back alot of old memories and good times. VERY ENJOYABLE!!!!!
Release Date August 09, 1994
This was an enjoyable collection of old school music. I primarily purchased it for the Chapter 8 classic,(with Anita Baker), I Just Wanna Be Your Girl, and Lenny Williams, Cause I Love You...aka the begging song...New Birth's Wildflower, and Rose Royce's I'm Going Down.
As our "albums" disintegrate, warp or scratch beyond playing, it's great to know that we can pluck our obscure favorites and play them again, on updated media...again and again.
Release Date June 22, 1993
This album has alot of good beat for Baby Got Back, Finally, Deeper And Deeper, Im Too Sexy, Jump Around, Real Love and the rest. I have this album when I first saw this album at the mall in 1993. I never stop loving this album! Its been 14 years and I never get tired of listening this album!!
