This is a limited edition 2 CD collection, featuring some of the original material released by Rhino Records before they became almost exclusively a reissue label. It is signed by "The Rhino Brothers" (Richard Foos & Harold Bronson).
The first disc features about an hour of some of the novelty songs released by Rhino. Many of these tracks will be familiar to listeners of the Dr. Demento show, including the classics "Pencil Neck Geek", "Fish Heads" and "The Homecoming Queen's Got a Gun". The lesser known songs are funny, too, if you are interested in novelty songs.
Disc two features some of the original rock songs released by Rhino over the years. The only actual hit here is "At This Moment" by Billy Vera & ... Read More:

This is the best of the Bowie compilations out there. It takes great bands covering a good selection of Bowie songs, unlike other compilations who only include "Let's Dance" and "Cat People". I'm impressed that "Andy Warhol", one of the best Bowie songs, was included, and Tree People do a good version. The Magnetic Fields also do an admirable version of "Heroes". All in all, the best Bowie covers are spread around in artist's solo albums, but if you're looking for a good collection of Bowie covers, this is the one to get..

A sleeper that demonstrates what happens when you take a bunch of out-of-the-mainstream bands and give them a good cause. In this case the cause is to support the suicide helpline, and the bands provide some of their best. Thrice's "Silhouette" sounds almost as good as Killswitch Engage's "End of Heartache" (although without Howard Jones' vox potenta), Shadows Fall unleashes a live version of its simultaneously psychotic and pensive "Thoughts Without Words." Contributions by Poison the Well, Silverstein, and Further Seems Forever add to the mayhem. Consider it aggressor ownership of the auditory senses.
Is it strange to have an assortment of thrash, speed, and core performing for suicide prevention charity? It should be noted that the Red Cross ... Read More:

I really like the idea of this album, however it could have had a few bigger names and better songs. Overall though it's a good listen. After the Rudolph opener, Collective Soul does a nice job, the Tori Amos cover is wonderful as expected, and the Juliana Hatfield song is a big plus too. Also worth a mention are the tracks from Victoria Williams and Everything But The Girl, both quite pleasing. The rest is good at the least, and the Jill Sobule song is a great addition. A nice disc for those wanting a cooler Christmas. I also suggest "The Edge Of Christmas" and "A Very Special Christmas 3".

FIRST OF ALL, THIS CD COMPLICATION HAS MORE THAN 40 SONGS ON IT. IT HAS 2 CDS AND A DVD FOR ONLY ABOUT $7 (WHAT I HAD TO PAY)! IF YOUR A FAN OF HARDCORE, PUNK, METAL OR STREET PUNK YOU WILL LOVE(?) THIS CD. THE ONLY REAL BAD THING ABOUT THIS IS THAT THEIR WEREN'T MANY BANDS THAT I KNEW BUT I GOT TO LIKE MOST OF THEM. ALL IN ALL IT WAS A GOOD CD.

when the exec's were sitting around discussing who should sing the songs on this cd there was someone in that group that stood up and said " let's get the Indigo Girls to sing Clampdown". You have got to be kidding me. This CD is a total waste of money and time. The other covers are lame as well. Some things you just leave alone. The Beatles, Jimi, Dylan etc. The Clash is one of those groups that there is no band that can or should cover them. I am actualy suprised that the record exec's didn't get Barry Manilow to sing Death or Glory. Wow, Joe must be spinning in his grave on this one. They didn't have a zero so I gave it a 1 star.

Punk rock in the 70's was a backlash against the effete swill that the corporate music industtry was spoon-feeding to the public. The punk scene in Portland was about self-expression rather than style; it was non-commercial and completely unpretentious."The History of Portland Punk vol.1" captures the essence of Portland's underground music scene in the 1970's. I have sentimental reasons for recommending this CD. In the late 70's I shared a house in Portland, Oregon with Bob Glassily and John French of the Rubbers. I hung out with many of the musicians featured on this album. Listening to this CD for the first time brought back memories of half-forgotten friends and rainy Portland nights. I could almost smell the clove cigarettes and stale beer.

This is a delightful compilation of the best of early to mid-60s Jamaican beats, with most of the big names like Desmond "It Mek" Dekker, Jimmy Cliff, Roland Alphonso, The Pioneers and The Ethiopians. This music inspired the glorious Two Tone revival in the UK at the beginning of the 80s, with great bands like The Selecter, Madness and others launching their careers by way of tribute to these original Jamaican artists. My favorites include Dave & Ansel Collins' organ-driven "Double Barrel" (although it dates from 1971), The Skatalites' "Guns of Navarone" that kicks off in a volley of guns, the soulful "Shanty Town' by Desmond Dekker and the equally subtle and soulful "Train to Skaville" by The Ethiopians. Other classics included here are "The Return of Django", "Phoenix ... Read More:
