Referring to your comment on Switchblade Symphony, the song Mother is found on "The Black Bible", a 4-disc compilation of goth and industrial music. Most of the songs on there are unreleased, rare mixes, b-sides, or anything else that makes a track hard to find. I suggest anyone with an ear for Goth and related styles, check this set out!
Release Date April 23, 1996
This is a pretty interesting disc. I guess some of the songs are rap, but mostly it's a collection of songs you've probably heard in the mid 90's. It's worth noting that people who aren't fans of rap might like what they hear on this disc. It's one of those albums you want to pull out every so often to see if you find it as fascinating as you did when you first heard it. I think you'll be surprised it holds up over the years.

Collecting early Ska (60's era)can be frustrating because of the varying quality of the source material. You never really know what you are getting sound quality wise on different labels unless you actually listen to the disc first. This particular release on the Heartbeat label, "Ska After Ska After Ska", is an outstanding Ska collection AND it has the absolute best sound quality I have ever heard for material of this vintage. A five star package if there ever was one! It sounds like it was recorded yesterday - it's that good - a rarity for early Ska CDs. The song selection is also not to be missed. Even if you already have some of this material you really owe it to youself to consider an upgrade purchase. Just buy it!

Some of the reviews of this comp seem to be narrow minded. If you've ever listened to the other punk o ramas you'd see that this cd follows the trend though Epitaph seems to be broadening its selection slightly. This cd has most of the regulars and adds a few newbies to punkorama like Atmosphere, Eyedea, and Error. Hiphop artists like Sage Francis and Atmosphere have been traversing into the punk scene lately and it makes a lot of sense to include them in the punkoramas. All in all, this cd was pieced together very well and has a ton of good songs. Well worth it for about $5.

As with many tribute albums, "Hurry Home Early" comes up pretty lame. None of the artists attempts to reinterpret or personalize the songs, they just provide pedestrian readings of some of Warren's best, but not over-played, compositions. The only track with any energy is Robbie Rist's take on "Mr. Bad Example." While his voice is a bit grating, at least it sounds like he's having some fun with the material.
Release Date October 24, 1995
I really like the idea of this album, however it could have had a few bigger names and better songs. Overall though it's a good listen. After the Rudolph opener, Collective Soul does a nice job, the Tori Amos cover is wonderful as expected, and the Juliana Hatfield song is a big plus too. Also worth a mention are the tracks from Victoria Williams and Everything But The Girl, both quite pleasing. The rest is good at the least, and the Jill Sobule song is a great addition. A nice disc for those wanting a cooler Christmas. I also suggest "The Edge Of Christmas" and "A Very Special Christmas 3".

If you can find these- snap them up! I have had these compilations for years- I think they only made three of them. (1986, 1987, and 1988.) I have owned them for longer than I care to admit. They survived years of heavy rotation in my CD changer, and I had to stage covert operations to snag them back from over-enthusiastic borrowers more than once.
Between the three discs, a lot of great material is covered- I guarantee you'll re-discover some old favorites. If you're a fan of New Wave 80's stuff, and are familiar with the usual stale offerings of the standard compilation discs- these will be a refreshing surprise.
I highly recommend all three of these CD's, and you might also want to take a look at the MTV's 120 Minutes ... Read More:

If you don't know Slapshot, I dare say you are missing out on an important part of East Coast Hardcore history. Hardcore, not as in countless Korn and Limp Biskit clones, but hardcore as it was meant to be--angry, fast and furious. Paying homage to Slapshot are none other than Boston's best current crop of hardcore/Oi!/punk bands. This is a great tribute, something Ken Casey (bassist for the Dropkick Murphys and owner of the label that released this, Flat records) should be greatly proud of. To me, the best tracks are Blood for Blood doing "No Friend of Mine" The Trouble doing "Back on the Map", the Molly Maguires turning "Moment of Truth" into a lively Irish jig and of course, the Dropkick Murphys ripping through ...
