Other Black / Death Metal bands from the early eighties already had a tribute. And now Bathory is as well rewarded by this great production.
Bathory created a whole scene, now inspired by it's raw and evil music. The bands on this tribute reminds us it well. I think any Black Metal fan should be aware of Bathory's contribution to metal.
I was not in Black Metal when these albums came out. But now, as a Black Metal fan and musician, I feel Bathory is something you must have in your collection because this is the root of Black Metal. And roots are what makes you stand still and not fall.
At last, and to leave a word on the CD itself, I was pleased to hear these songs with a new sound and a good production. The ... Read More:

Along with Texas and Denmark (seriously), Chicago is reputed to have had one of the best garage-rock scenes of the entire 1960s. Collectors will tell you about fantastic local acts such as the Shadows of Knight (of "Oh Yeah" fame), the Lemon Drops, and the New Colony Six, as well as the all-important influence of the city's astounding blues output (Chicago was the home of postwar electric blues, thanks to such local luminaries as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and the legendary Chess Records label). Unfortunatley, you wouldn't know this from listening to volume six of the long-running Pebbles series. Sure, there are plenty of gems on this disc, but so much of it is devoted to the kind of dull, soundalike filler that is the bane of garage-rock fans the ... Read More:

Back in the late 90's they promoted this album ALL THE TIME while I was watching WWE wrestling (called WWF back then). It eventually got to the point where I simply HAD to buy the thing to see what the big deal was.
Unfortunately, while it was really appealing to me at first, it really began to lose its charm as the years past, as I began to find out the hit songs weren't the ONLY things these bands should be remembered for. In fact, these songs seriously aren't as good as many of the songs you'd find on any one of the Ratt, Quiet Riot, or Poison albums. Why should we remember *just* the hits? We shouldn't.
Furthermore, artists like Alice Cooper and Judas Priest shouldn't be on here in the first place, because they're ... Read More:

Cover albums are always a risky bet. It seems like the same dozen or so out of work hair metallers keep getting called on to pay tribute to classic rock icons, and the results are never pretty. Every once in a while a real gem emerges, such as Magna Carta's Rush and ELP tributes and this album, which pays homage to the legendary progressive/art/glam rock band Queen.
This 1997 tribute album features some true heavy metal heavyweights offering up versions of songs that truly inspired them. It's definitely not your run of the mill Cleopatra Records tribute. Any album that boasts Dream Theater's James LaBrie and John Petrucci, Anthrax's Scott Ian and John Bush, as well as Jeff Scott Soto, Glenn Hughes, Yngwie Malmsteen, Lemmy and Ted Nugent (among ... This cd is an excellent tribute. The only thing i dont get is why so many people dont like the death metal cover songs. Megadeth is a thrash band that inspired these bands, theyre just paying their dues to them, and plus if it sounded exactly like Deth, why make a tribute? There is not one song on there that i dont like, but my favs would have to be "Go To Hell" anf "Peace Sells". Also, deserves notice is Fairlight's awesome cover of "Hanger 18" they mixed in some keyboards and it makes it sound so good. buy this tribute if you love Megadeth and dont mind death metal vocals
