The original Sacred Treasures CD is justly acclaimed for bringing beautiful, sublime Eastern Orthodox music to American listeners. Unfortunately, the subsequent discs in the series did not live up to the original's standard. Sacred Treasures 2 was an ill-conceived recording of Allegri's "Miserere Mei" with instrumental accompaniment. Sacred Treasures 3 went back to the Eastern Orthodox music; it was good, just not that compelling compared to the first disc. Sacred Treasures IV didn't add anything, as it was a recording of Western music that had already been recorded better elsewhere. The latest in the series brings Sacred Treasures back to the sublime heights of the original, with atmospheric Orthodox church music, primarily by 20th century ... Read More:

Fantastic compilation of Old American Songs!
This album was recorded about a decade ago, today -
Nathan Gunn is a well known and respected opera singer,
a title he truly deserves.

Each featured Cantor was a master. There is here Jewish prayer as it was meant to be rendered in the Ashkenazic tradition. The sound quality is excellent, and the booklet is quite informative. This recording is a bargain beyond measure. Anyone with a love of this music of the classic Eastern European synagogue would find this a delight.

I'll throw my hat into the ring with Frank & ClassicalFan, you must read their reviews. I won't rehash these excellent commentaries, however, I would add that so many compilations of baroque music are clich'e, but not here. The musical selection was masterfully done. Not only will you hear some uncommon Baroque gems, you will become engulfed in their contemplitive reflection. This music is true salve for the soul!

Sacred Treasures is one of the most beautiful discs I have listened to in a long time. The music evokes a heavenly choir. My personal favorite is track 12, Cherubim by Tchaikovsky. It moves me to a different place. A place I'd like to stay.

I fell in love with this album upon the first listen. The deep rumblings of the bass voices were felt more than heard while the tenors soared gorgeously above. The complexity of the harmonies can mostly be attributed to the composers but the perfect balance of all the voices in the harmonies is what sets this album apart from others. I don't understand Russian, but I can hear the praise, the awe, the humbleness. It's beautiful and it soothes my soul...I turn to it when I'm hurting and feel the rawness subside. I even brought this with me for the births of my children. I highly recommend it.

I am not an expert in classical music, but have always loved the string instruments. I bought this CD for relaxation (as the title implies) and to help me focus on writing a thesis. I was torn between this CD and the Cello for Relaxation. I am pleased with my choice. My favorites are track #2 and #10 (listen to the samples through Amazon) - I usually play these two on repeat. My least favorite is track #7 because it sounds like a piano dominated movie soundtrack.
Although I wish I could have exchanged some of the tracks for others, I think this CD was worth the money and is a nice mix for those of us who don't know specific composers by name or who want a good sampling.

As I type the words to this review, I am listening to Nessun dorma (Puccini, Turandof) over and over again from the CD collection I am now writing about. Good music is supposed to inspire, and this one inspires.
This six CD collection is from Best Film 100: The Great Blockbusters, The Classic Movies, Favorite Movies, The Piano at the Cinema, Opera at the Cinema (my favorite), and Baroque Goes to the Cinema.
The ironic part about listening to music from the movies is that it mainly goes unnoticed by people who would never claim to be classical or opera lovers in the first place. I'm sure that Mozart's, "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" fits perfectly in the movie "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," a movie I seem to continually miss, and it is also ... Read More:

This CD is excellent and well worth the price, the sound quality is first class and includes rare music that you probably will not hear elsewhere.
There is also a very detailed history of the Division included with the CD, something that goes beyond the expected. Purchasers will have no regrets when buying this CD.

I was disappointed in the music. It was not beautiful or relaxing. it was boring and depressing. not the seller's fault unless they were the musician..
