I was actually looking for The March Of The Gladiators (he famous circus music) When I found this album, but when I read all rest of the program, I knew I had to have it.
Most of the marches are by European composers, although J.P. Sousa is included, but many of the pieces are well known to American audiences as themes from movie, radio, and television shows, even though we don't know their titles.
Together they make a fascinating, lively, and truly entertaining musical show. I love to play this disc while working. It's fun to listen to, and helps set a brisk pace. Another practical use for this disc might be for storeowners to play it in place of muzak during the last hour before closing.(It would gently encourage shoppers to ... Read More:

"100 Best Baroque" is what it seems - a compilation of the 100 definitive Baroque compositions. For a very low price you get a complete overview of the Baroque style, and while the sound quality of the recordings will not satisfy a serious student or fan of classical music, they are more than enough for a classical neophyte such as myself.
The compilation breaks down the songs into six categories on six separate CDs:
1. England and the Baroque - Handel's Zadok the Priest and Messiah, Purcell's O Solitude, Byrd's With Lillies White, etc.
2. The Best of Italian Baroque - Handel's Alcina and others, Albinoni's Adagio, Gabrielli's Sonata Pian e forte, Vivaldi's "Summer," etc.

Jordi Savall, eminent violist hailing from Catalunya, once again works his period magic with the help of Hesperion XX. Savall is perhaps best-known for his recordings of French Baroque music by Lully, Sainte Colombe and Marais (for example, Tous Les Matins du Monde/Dix Ans Apres), although he has extensively explored other early music genres such as Spain's Golden Age or Eastern music from Turkey, Afghanistan, and beyond.
On Music from Christian and Jewish Spain, Savall has divided the work into two separate discs. The first disc is devoted to Spanish court music from Spain's Age of Discoveries (1492-1553), consisting mainly of villancicos, romances, and recercadas. This is not my main area of expertise, but I would venture that these ... Read More:

First off, this cd has some of my favorite classical songs on it. The songs themselves are great, and many are instantly recognizable for all those who didn't know their names.
The recording quality of this cd isn't great. For most people with average ears and average hardware, that won't make a difference. For the extermely intent listeners, the recording quality isn't great, and, while I would recommend any of the music on here to anyone, I just wouldn't reccomend this particular cd to those who high-powered hardware and are picky.

Thank G-d It's Friday is a beautiful collection on songs for the Sabbath (Jewish). Wonderful voices and a good quality CD. I wasn't too sure about ordering this CD but I'm glad I did. It rather sets the tone for me on a Friday afternoon while coming home in my car. I have lent it to a good friend of mine and have had a similar response. Good, very good.

Eric Coates' "Calling All Workers" and Edward White's "Puffin' Billy" (used as Captain Kangaroo's theme music!) are the two main reasons to buy this first-rate CD. The former work, from 1940, is an elegantly rousing and structurally flawless march in symmetrical binary form, with the second section making its final appearance in augmentation, the note values doubled for wonderful dramatic effect. Such by-the-book perfection is news when encountered in Mozart or Beethoven, and it should be given its due here. The equally effective "Puffin' Billy" is breezily structured by comparison, with a minimum of thematic material transformed through theme and variation and frequent modulations into a charming and satisfyingly complete train journey. The piece is repetitious ... Read More:

Crisp and clean and seductively laid back is this nice collection of 31 pieces from the composer likes of Haydn, Mozart, Bach, Debussy, Telemann, et al, performed by the greatest flutists in the world such as Bennett, Galway, and Rampal.
Especially enjoying the Concerto in G by Vivaldi with harpsichord.

Pierre Pierlot (1921-2007) was the most well-known and one of the best of French oboists in the 20th century. His fluent playing, natural phrasing, sweet tone, ample vibrato (too ample for some) and flawless technique have been inspiration for many (including the great Lothar Koch, who picked up the oboe upon hearing Pierlot).
This album features some of the most well-known pieces of the oboe repetoire, as well as the little-known but exceedingly beautiful piece by Zopoli. The recorded sound (from 1963 to 1970) was excellent. The Cimarosa and the Albinoni presented here were Pierlot's second recordings of each, and they are definitely superior to the earlier recordings (on EMI).
For those of you oboists who are not familiar to the French ... Read More:
