My sister listened to Imus in the '70s, and as a result, so did I. This is that Imus--as we never heard him on the radio. This is so much better than the modern Imus, who is under the awful death sentence of emphysema. this is a healthy, robust Imus, before he ever talked to a worthless corrupt politician, before he introduced us to his brother Fred, who has the IQ of a small salad bar. This is an Imus who didn't advertise overpriced junk, and sell even more overpriced junk. I'm now the proud owner of both albums he made that are known to exist--this one, and "1200 Hamburgers to Go." No Imus fan should be without either of these. and put cheese on bacon on 327 of those burgers.

I just bought the MP3 album and this does not have the explicit lyrics. The bad words are like you would hear if you were listening to it on the radio, you can't hear them. ARGH! I want my dirty words! I am very disappointed. Shame on Amazon.

From the start of Nelson Riddle's "Theme from Route 66" this album jumps out @ the listener, with this being easily one of the BEST TV themes ever produced, very catchy and very cool, more reminiscent of just a hip lounge piece and is perfect to introduce this package. John Buzon's "Caravan" is another fun spin on what is one of the several out there of this great tune, this one being played a bit like a rhumba! Line Renaud's "Sexe" is nothing special but it's very slick and is a little like something that would have come from the cavern clubs during the beat era. I can't say enough about Lou Busch's jazzy "Cool", adapted from the already jazz-cool Bernstein musical "West Side Story". This is just another good rendition offered, although here ... Read More:

I'll just get right to describing the disc. Shorter songs than normal, on average. Songwriting style (lyrically) that could be considered very artisitic or just guys screing around trying to be vulgar in a pop-music format, dependign on your perspective.
Singing: Too many people singing at once, with no attempt at perfection, or slick-ness.
instruments: Standard pop-rock instruments, but a little heavy on the odd percussion (but so was Bo Diddley). Some guys know how to play. Some do not. Bassist John Anderson is fascinating in his "I know a little" approach, and would have been a famous musician in backwoods string bands in the early 20th century. I love his stuff. His style tends to "country folk" here, just a wall ... Read More:

I dunno, boys and girls.
Dont get me wrong. I truly think Zappa is one of America's most overlooked musical geniuses. Screw the Beatles. He has been a beacon in a musical wasteland of overly produced, commericalized, imitative pop gunk that has poisoned us for years. I was glad to see him live and to own his recordings.
But for us true Zappa fans, (the ones who own a copy of Absolutely Free)this is kinda crappy. Frank resorts to dated high schoolyard humor, the music became more standardized glam-metal-reggae and left out the adventurous angular, polymetric twists and aural weirdness he was known for.
I think as his bands got younger and younger, Frank tried to keep up by resorting to their level of humor, which was kinda ... Read More:

I love the CD. Being that I know the guy, some of the material on the CD makes it that much funnier. It's also cool knowing the story with some of the people (and beings) Nick has in his liner notes. Yes, like some have said, some of this is a repeat from his past shows, WHO CARES???? Nick is one of the best comics around!

An hilarious poke at the fab four with talent themselves, the Rutles took the late 1970's by storm. Song writer Neil Inness' well crafted wit is manifested in the Beatle sound alikes. The songs may sound familiar, that's because Inness played around with the same chords the Beatles did to construct his melodies. Good stuff.
