The first songs I ever heard from Tim Wilson were "First Baptist Bar and Grill" and "Chucky Cheese Hell," and thought they were both hilarious, so I bought some of his CD's, and was turned off to find out that those were the ONLY two funny pieces he ever did. For the most part he's just an ignorant racist redneck. Most of his schtick seems to have been recorded back in the 1990's, during which time he seems to have been obsessed with the notion that Bill Clinton was a horrible, horrible, horrible president.

This was Dave's third album. An earlier reviewer talked about the "canned" laughter was too loud. The show was recorded live in Atlanta. The problem with the applause had to do with trying to "mike" a live show for stereo...in 1961.

There is some good material here, but "Rejoice Dear Hearts" and "Kick Thine Own Self" were better all around, material, sound and editing.

Roy D. Mercer can be very, very funny but it is the shame he can only play the same character over and over again. You can often predict the path every call would take. Yes, this allows caller to achieve mastery, but after that much repetition, the comical quality wears thin. This is unfortunate because, like I said, Roy D. Mercer is one ace prank-caller.

You will note excellent writing and some fine touches delivered in a flawless casual style. However, these days the art of prank calling has been elevated to incredible heights by Touch Tone Terrorists (a.k.a. Junkyard Willie, a.k.a. RePete) and Tom Mabe, and you really need to try a bit harder. Let us hope that Mr Mercer finds a new dimention within his unmistakable talent.

I've been a big fan of Tim Wilson for years, since the release of his first major release "Tough Crowd." To me, he's the best comedian around. I've loved just about everything he's done and this one is no exception. The only real problem I have with this album is that I expected an album titled "The Real Twang Thang" to have a great deal more music in country style. He delves into more lounge type music. Still, the songs are great and hilarious, but the stand up routines are even better, some of his best work in a while. "Messing With the Crowd" delivers some of the best cutdowns I've heard. "Youngsters" says it all about growing up in America these days. "The History of Rock" explains exactly how I feel about the state of the music industry ... Read More:

Ray Stevens is a true talent for about 50 years now. From his humourous parodies of Ahab the Arab and The Streak to the touching Everything is Beautiful this collection offers something for everyone. I have admired his music for quite a while. Great stuff!
