Old Crow Medicine Show has taken bluegrass, rock and country music and, IMO, fused it into some real good-time music. While the Album is strong throughout, "Wagon Wheel" is what I would call their signature song. It's catchy and will appeal to anybody who loves lively music and who does not have a built in bias against vocals with a twang. I've seen them live and they were great. While their second CD does not have a song as catchy as "Wagon Wheel", I think OCMS's second album is more consistent throughout than this CD.

Not exactly sure what I would do without these recordings. A world without Bach: a scary thought. My pulse slackens a bit each time I put these on. Relaxing, sure, but also tremendously moving. A perfect antidote for the trivial drone, distraction, and bustle of our post-capitalist world. No need to go buy new-age computer glitch world-music ambience; this is sonic therapy, written centuries before we needed it.

Few will deny that The Who's "Tommy" remains one of the all time great classic rock albums. Although concept albums had been done before this one, "Tommy" was the first one to really catch a wave of public support and basically define just what a concept album was. There was nothing like this out there when "Tommy" was released in 1969 as The Who raised the bar for rock n roll creating a work of art instead of just an album full of songs. Of course this rock opera went on to inspire a film, all star staging's of the material, and a Broadway musical. "Tommy" is not the best concept album ever created in fact it is not even the best by The Who ("Quadrophenia" is better), but it has stood the test of time as a great musical composition and ... My daughter loves this video. She is almost 2 and we've had the video for 2 months and she asks to watch it every day. She very quickly learned the names of all the animals, and she giggles at the puppets' antics. We also have Baby Neptune and Baby Galileo, and she loves those as well. She likes having me sit next to her to watch it with her, because then she can ask me what the animals are and what are they doing. It makes for relaxing downtime for both of us.

A marvelous version of this great opera. The 'young' Pavoratti's voice simply soars. I saw the new Met version recently which was excellent, but no comparison in tenors. What a loss too soon when he died.

Philip Glass - Songs & Poems for Solo Cello - Wendy Sutter

This is quite unlike Philip Glass' minimalism music. It is lush and fluid, written for Wendy Sutter, whom he loves. It is obvious and lovely. The old cello she plays has a wonderful deep tone and she plays with controlled virtuosity and passionate feeling. Highly recommended. I am giving the recording as a gift to those who appreciate music.
