As in previous issues of Mozart and Bach, this one is a winner. A sampling of a number of different works (symphonies, string quartets, concedrtos, piano sonatas...)reveal first rate performances in all cases I have sampled. The recording is also great. So, really no downside to this set at the price offered.

I use this as an opportunity to listen to lesser known works, and to compare the great ones with other recordings I have. I suppose I should not be surprised to find that there are Beethoven works out there that I do not care for at all (Examples: Various folk and national songs). But the time honored great works are there as well as all the other.

A Beethoven lover should not miss this chance.

Well, I'm a big Brian's fan! Maybe the biggest one around ! Just for the record, I'm from Brazil! Ok,I used to say " everything setzer does is fine, very good ". That 's allowed me to say Setzer's is now missed in multicolored suits and guitars and fancy " wigs ". The firt 3 BSO albuns are stupendous. Stray cats is off record! But some annoying swingin everything ( I love swing music, BBVD and others!) christmas songs, santa claus blablabla... and now this : ok , he's one of the most talented guitar players in action, the arrangements are more than well done but....maybe three or four songs, 'd be ok but a whole album...He`s already a great artist and this 'd not change, not because one album, but a back in the roots and some simplicity 'd do some good. The conductor and the singers can make a beautiful song the opera that everyone jeers and hates. To have a Russian singer doing o mio babbino caro is just plain silly...give the woman a break and play something from Russian opera...give a beautiful melodic aria to a lyrical singer like Caballe...boo hiss. Try Opera's Greatest Moments where they give Hvorostvsky an aria from Pique Dame and leave the bel canto to bel canto singers.
