The Art Of Romance is a fine Tony Bennett CD of him singing his heart out on these great and classic love songs. The quality of the sound is excellent; and the artwork is very thoughtfully done. This is a wonderful CD for Tony's fans; and it makes a great starter CD for people new to Tony's artistry.

The CD starts with Tony Bennett singing so well on "Close Enough For Love;" he massages the lyrics to this song and this is anything but elevator music! Tony never misses a beat and despite his age he truly sounds as good as he ever did. "Close Enough For Love" is an excellent starting tune for this album and I predict you'll like it very much. Some of us were disappointed by Funny Lady, the picture, after Funny Girl. Barbra looked amazing, of course, but the picture didn't have the oomph that Funny Girl did (except in the "How Lucky Can You Get" number.) Meanwhile, I still decided I needed the soundtrack and I'm extremely thrilled that I bought it! The CD is simply amazing- I've already listened to it twice today. The score is really wonderful. It's fun and silly and serious and Barbra sounds f***ing amazing. Buy it. Now. Added bonus are liner notes by Barbra's self-proclaimed biggest fan: the real Linda Richman!

Now you can hear what is missing from the 1968 film version of "FUNNY GIRL"-- and that's actually quite a lot! Barbra Streisand sings a super "Coronet Man." There's a bit more for supporting players Danny Meehan and Kay Medford to do (they sing a funny "Who Taught Her Everything") because, I assume Streisand had to be off stage sometimes to change costumes. Jean Stapleton of "All In The Family" fame is distinctively heard in "If A Girl Isn't Pretty."
Broadway Cast Albums were recorded live with orchestra; just like the a live Broadway show. In later years, Barbra developed such an obsession with perfection and absolute control. Of the three albums Frank made in an attempt to "get with the times" by updating his sound the fit ever changing sounds of the 1960s, this 1966 effort is not only the first the best. It manages to include some unique modernized touches but for the most part stays rooted in the traditional Sinatra sound. (The problem with the other albums was that they did just the opposite.)

Frank is in excellent voice, Nelson Riddle's arrangements are excellent, and the songs are top notch. The atmosphere for the album is very casual and fun, and it shows in most of the recordings.
