The track set starts with "Sweet Leilani." This tune has a Hawaiian beat to it; the slow tempo enhances the romantic effect of this ballad. Lani McIntyre and His Hawaiians bolster this number. This isn't quite the "sleeper" that "On Holiday" is (as good as any Bennett album I've heard), but it's awfully appealing, with the vocalist's execution of Jon Hendricks' tricky lyrics to "Dat Dere" standing out as an album highlight. This kind of material seems ideally suited to Bennett's timbre (raspy and muted in the middle, penetrating and full on top) more than the pop-Wagnerian "romantic" arrangements and productions that he's so frequently saddled with. (There's no more apt metaphor for the language of music than "playground.")

Frank sounds great for eighty years old on this recording. I really like the particular songs that were chosen for this live album because there is a mixture of fast and slow tunes. The arrangements from Cole Porter, Nelson Riddle, and Rogers and Heart are all excellent.

My favorite song on the whole disc is "Soliliquy" a song about a man who learns that his wife is going to have a child. He has no clue how he will raise this child and is having difficulty accepting the responsibility. Frank does such a great job with this track. His singing really gives the listener a good idea of how the man in the song must have felt. My other favorites are "What's New, "Angel Eyes" and "For Once in My Life."

This is the album that turned me on to Sinatra as a five year old back in 1965. My mother, who liked Frank as a bobby soxer back in the Forties, bought this album that year and so it was always playing on the stereo. I knew nothing about music as a 5 year old other than my Walt Disney albums and some group called The Beatles that my older brother has just discovered. Hearing Frank Sinatra croon his way through this album, his wonderful speaking voice introducing some of the songs left a very strong impression on me.

Songs like "Come Fly With Me, "Witchcraft," "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "Learnin' The Blues" blew me away as a small boy and Frank, to this day has remained my favorite male vocalist. Most people my age ... Read More:

The first CD starts with Rosemary Clooney--at 17--singing "Sooner Or Later." Yes, there's some surface noise on this track but it never truly interferes with the sound. Rosemary's voice is beautiful and lush; and the arrangement works wonders for this ballad. "Peach Tree Street" has a crystal clear number with Rosemary singing her heart out--and Frank Sinatra doesn't do too bad, either!
