Listening to the Wildest brought back many childhood memories. My dad and I used to sing along with all of Louis Prima's songs. One of our team favorites was "A Banana Split for My Baby". Louis' music is fun and happy and the group always sounded like they enjoyed what they were playing. I've already started sharing some of the songs with my grandchildren. Hopefully, it will be passed on to another generation!

JOHNNY MATHIS continues to shine with this, his third christmas album. From 1969 and arranged and conducted by ERNIE FREEMAN, GIVE ME YOUR LOVE FOR CHRISTMAS is another example of great 'crooner' christmas music.
GIVE ME YOUR LOVE FOR CHRISTMAS is not as powerful as his 1958 christmas album, MERRY CHRISTMAS, or even his 1963 lp, THE SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS (released on cd as CHRISTMAS WITH JOHNNY MATHIS) asit seems to lack that 'grabbing you' attention the other two had with their powerful styles, but this 1969 album still has a decent amount of old seasonal filled atmosphere to give it 5 stars and a high recommendation by me.
JINGLE BELL ROCK starts off with a very 'big band' inspired version that is loud and very 'happy' ... Read More:

After this was sung by the duo on Bing's Merrie Olde Christmas special in 1977, people began clamoring for a recorded version, but it wasn't until a 45 rpm was issued in 1982 on RCA Victor 13400 (with Fantastic Voyage on the flip) that their demands were met. It then became increasingly difficult to find until Oglio Records released this CD in 1995.
It also appears in Oglio Records' multi-artist volume The Coolest Christmas. Liner notes are confined to the following advice regarding playing of the CD, which also includes the full-length nusic video:

I own most of Ella Fitzgerald's songbooks on CD so I was happy to add this to my collection. The only problem with it is that it's way too short. Unlike most of Ella's other songbooks this one only has 12 tunes. Lesser known songs such as `Let's Begin','I'll Be Hard to Handle','You Couldn't Be Cuter' and `Remind Me' would have been fine on a two LP collection of 25+ songs but here they take the place of standards like "Long Ago and Far Away", "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" and The Folks Who Live On The Hill.
The folks at Verve could have at last added "I Won't Dance" and "Pick Yourself Up" from "Ella Swings Brightly with Nelson" as bonus tracks to fill in the CD. Both albums were recorded around the same time so there is no difference in ... Read More:

Louis Prima and Keely Smith were a seemingly odd couple act who worked astonishingly well together on the Vegas strip and in other venues as well. This CD gives us the reasons why. Their voices are strong, vibrant and full of positive energy; and they can harmonize so well it stuns me.
The CD opens with "Night And Day;" the musical arrangement makes good use of the percussion and horns; the arrangement also plays with the tempo somewhat to give this a sprightly flavor. Louis Prima and Keely Smith's voices project warmth and passion on this number. The horns and percussion work well again for the arrangement of "All I Do Is Dream Of You;" Louis and Keely use their personal chemistry as lovers in real life to give this duet extra punch and depth, too.

For the money, this is as good of a box set as you are going to find. All of the trio's hits are here - - more to the point, the collection is a document of Cole at the height of his powers. It's stylish, urbane and superbly performed.
This is an import for Amazon, and it appears from the Penguin Jazz Record Guide that it is going out of print. So if you are thinking about buying it, I'd buy it as soon as possible. You won't regret it.

I haven't yet acquired Sinatra's complete Reprise recordings, so I needed this and Greatest Hits! (volume 1) to compliment my Reprise Collection
4-CD box set. The two Reprise/WB Greatest Hits have numerous singles and tracks from the 60's that are not on the 4 CD box.
Buyers be aware - as of November 2007, when I ordered this from Amazon I received a copy that was an import from Canada. It's identical to the U.S. version, except for some fine print on the back, and a slightly different catalog code number on the edge.

Last Sunday's Grammy Awards Night gave me an emotional trigger to listen to this CD and appreciate its eternal charms! I was so delighted with the opening number -- Frank Sinatra and Alicia Keys' "digital duet" of "Learnin' The Blues." It was amazing and I love everything about it! The orchestral arrangement is simply grand. My heart just melted the moment Ol' Blue Eyes started singing and as always, he looked so slick and debonair. And surprisingly, I was impressed with Keys' outstanding performance, which is a showcase of her flawless phrasing, expansive vocal range and piano playing skills. I think singing the standards from Great American Songbook will truly enhanced the beauty of her vocal art. I hope someday she will record this music genre and include this great "digital ...
