Love is an outstanding release from Rosemary Clooney with lush arrangements by the great nelson Riddle. When they say that this showcases a slightly older and more polished Rosemary Clooney, they are right. The sound quality is excellent and I like the artwork as well.
The album begins with Rosemary singing "Invitation;" this song doubles as a beautiful opening tune and an invitation to listen to the entire CD. Rosemary sings with an awful lot of grace and style; she shows a great deal of maturity and polish--great! "Yours Sincerely" features Rosemary again in the spotlight; she never misses a beat and she handles this complicated vocal arrangement flawlessly. Nelson Riddle's arrangement uses the strings to great advantage, too. ... Read More:

Please be aware that this item is not a real Duets BY Patsy Cline CD. These duets were not recorded by/with Patsy Cline during her lifetime but are selections done digitally by a current artist singing along with Cline's recordings, NOT with Cline herself.

Clearly, when compared to much of his Capitol and Columbia material, these do not count among Frank's classic songs. However, they did appeal to enough people at the time to shoot them well up the Easy Listening [Adult Contemporary] charts, and even, to a lesser degree, the Billboard Pop Hot 100. So, to dismiss them as "commercial drek" is missing the point entirely. The man had to go on paying the bills [including alimony] and so why not churn out stuff that made the greater masses happy? Did they not count?
What I don't like about this album - which first appeared in vinyl in 1968 - is the title "greatest hits" and the meagre [1 page] of liner notes. Perhaps that was all they could squeeze onto the back of an LP in 1968, but for the CD ... Read More:

Last Sunday's Grammy Awards Night gave me an emotional trigger to listen to this CD and appreciate its eternal charms! I was so delighted with the opening number -- Frank Sinatra and Alicia Keys' "digital duet" of "Learnin' The Blues." It was amazing and I love everything about it! The orchestral arrangement is simply grand. My heart just melted the moment Ol' Blue Eyes started singing and as always, he looked so slick and debonair. And surprisingly, I was impressed with Keys' outstanding performance, which is a showcase of her flawless phrasing, expansive vocal range and piano playing skills. I think singing the standards from Great American Songbook will truly enhanced the beauty of her vocal art. I hope someday she will record this music genre and ... Read More:

I bought this solely because of the use Wong Kar-Wai made of this music in his films, chiefly of course In the Mood for Love but I was very pleased to find also on this album tracks that were featured in Days of Being Wild, a film that runs a close second to ITMFL. In particular, 'Perfidia' which is the music he uses when he pans across the Thai jungle scenery at the start and finish of the movie. The album is a collection of gorgeously nostalgic songs that resonate on many levels and bring back memories of childhood in the 50's when parents and friends played such songs on their old gramophones. It's fabulous, exotic, escapist stuff. Yes, his Spanish accent leaves a little to be desired but with a voice like that, who's really complaining?

This is probably Frank Sinatra's best during his second wind. Not only does he do a few standards, but also a few songs that were popular at the time the album was release. 5 out of 5 stars.

I first came across the voice of Ella Fitzgerald via the 1988 movie Torch Song Trilogy. The movie was eye opening and life changing for me on so many levels. In a way, although of course I was unaware of it at the time, it was also a glimpse into my future. I wept for hours afterwards even though I didn't fully realise what I was weeping about. If only I knew then what I know now.
Anyway, Ella's "This Time The Dream's On Me" was used more than once during the course of the film and it also accompanied the closing credits. I fell in love with the song immediately. I was out searching for the soundtrack soon after but to my dismay when I eventually found it, the song was not listed. (I learned later that legal complications meant that the song couldn't ... When Barbra Streisand decided to tour in 1993, it was the first time in a long time she would perform for the general public. Seeing as she rarely performed live, when the tickets were put on sale, they sold out in a matter of hours, and Streisand was probably nervous about putting on a good show. However, put on a good show she did, making this live album her most essential.
Unlike most of her live albums prior to this, Barbra doesn't just come out, sing her most famous songs, and that is that. In fact, she takes some of her standards, like "People" and "Evergreen," as well as some lesser known songs, like "Will He Like Me," and uses them to tell her personal story, as well as her views on politics, dating in the 90s (the therapy monologues are introspective ... Think about it, is there anyone in the entertainment business today that can even remotely compare to this amazing talent? This multi-talented man could simply do it all. On top of being an amazing singer and dancer, he was an actor, comedian, impressionist, and believe it or not a multi-talented instrumentalist (he played the drums, trumpet and vibraphone). There was nothing Sammy couldn't do.
The man was simply adored by all. Although small in stature, he was a giant among men. He was both confident and humble at the same time. He could be cocky one moment, and then turn around and be totally self-effacing the next. There was something so engaging about him, so honest, and open. This is why we love his music so much - because he makes you believe that every word he's belting ... Read More:

Reading through the other reviews, there is nothing much I can add to the superlatives directed at this compilation of the work, at Columbia Records, of a man who can arguably be described as the greatest vocalist of the 20th Century. However, I notice too that the only two 3-star reviews to date have drawn a disproportionate number of negative votes, almost as if it's regarded as sacrilege by some to even dare cast a negative light on any compilation of Frank Sinatra songs. Well, I can see their point to some degree.
A large part of my 5-star assessment relates to the near-flawless sound quality and the packaging, 4 discs contained in a book-like 5.5 x 10 inch case which also presents a 68-page booklet divided as follows: Introduction by Nancy Sinatra; At the Heart Of American Music by Daniel ... Read More:
