Beginning with the release of Rubber Soul in 1965, The Beatles quickly evolved from brilliant pop songwriters and performers to "serious" artists whose best songs stand comparison, in their craft and creative scope, with great classical music. As their music became more ambitious, The Beatles drew progressively further away from their rock and roll roots. After their last scheduled concert in August 1966, they gave up live performance to become exclusively a studio band. Their withdrawal reached its limits in 1967's Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, when they assumed the identities of fictional performers. The pendulum turned the following year. As suggested by its self-title, The Beatles (The White Album) was an effort by The ... Read More:

This is not a bad collection of songs by any means. My problem lies in what is absent. There is a WHOLE LOT missing from Aerosmith's 70's heyday. Thirty songs on here and only ten are from the 70's. I'm sorry but that is just too much post-70's material. Where is "Walking The Dog", "Train Kept a Rolling", "Chip Away The Stone", "Kings And Queens". But in all fairness the name of the collection is "Ulitmate Hits" not "Best Of". And for better or worse Aerosmiths "greatest hits" came from 1987 on. And there is really nothing wrong with that material. "Permanent Vacation" was my first real introduction to the band back in 87 when I was in high school when they made there comeback, but where I have a problem is that there are umpteen Aerosmith 80s/90s ... With "Rubber Soul", the Beatles started maturing as artists and moving away from "mere" teen pop, but it was with "Revolver" that they hit their peak. Certainly the albums that came later were perhaps even more ambitious and got more press and, yes, hype. Nevertheless if I have to choose a favorite Beatles album, it would be "Revolver". I've had this album for a long time (in LP format), and it's been one of my favorites. Almost by coincidence I was recently exposed to this album again after many years. I'm happy to say that this one absolutely stands the test of time. It's now on heavy rotation in my stereo.
Originally on LP the US and UK releases of the Beatles allbums up to and including this one were different. I the case of "Revolver" the ... Read More:

I give an album 5 stars if it has at least 5 songs that are great enough to make it into my permanent collection (into my iTunes/iPod). No question, Nostradamus nails it. 5 Stars.
This album is artfully done and the boys have laid down everything they've got in making this one. I have everything by Priest, but I don't continue to listen to every song. I don't need "Parental Guidance", etc. If you love all of Nostradamus, God bless you, but for me, I'll be listening to just the following tracks a hell of a lot!:
Dawn of Creation, PROPHECY, Awakening, PESTILENCE AND PLAGUE, PERSECUTION, ALONE, Shadows in The Flame, VISIONS, NOSTRADAMUS. This makes it a 42 minute mega-epic album.

My kids heard the song "back in black" when they watched the movie "Iron Man" and they asked me whose song it was. This was my chance to introduce them to classic rock so I bought them this CD. They love it. Now they want to borrow the rest of my CD's.

I saw Creedence Clearwater Revisited last year. That band takes a lot of heat for having a capable Fogerty sound-alike stand in for Fogerty. I understand some fans' complaints about the heart and soul of the music being compromised, but my argument was, and still is, that these songs are timeless gems and are worth hearing no matter who's singing them.
So, on to my review ... this is a very admirable greatest hits CD of one of the best bands of the late sixties. All of my favorite Creedence songs are here, including "Bad Moon Rising," "Lodi," "Run Through The Jungle" and "Travelin' Band." To me Creedence Clearwater Revival is the perfect example of how to be a rock band. Fogerty, the band's principal songwriter, can be serious when he needs to be but also ... Read More:

I'm a huge Beatles fan (as my screen name suggests!), and I refused to listen to this CD until now. I'm a purist when it comes to the Beatles -- no covers, no remixes, no muzak arrangements, no alt-rock interpretations, thankyouverymuch. Just the originals. But my curiosity finally got the best of me, so I ordered a copy (truth be told, I just wanted to bring my order amount up to the free shipping minimum), and now I regret I didn't buy this sooner. George and Giles Martin have done a fantastic job remixing these Beatles classics. There are some really interesting pairings -- pieces of "Drive My Car" coupled with "The Word?" And it works -- beautifully. It will never take the place of the originals for me -- I don't think George Martin intended it to -- but for me, ... Read More:

Let me start by telling you im a die hard Def Leppard fan. I have been a fan through thick and thin from 1983. I have stuck up for them in the 90s, and had been there when they had everyone beat. Even in my 40's I still purchase all material, and see them every time there in town!
I have been lookinf ofr new music from them for the last 5 years. It is always, another 4months, then another year because of this album or this tour. So finally, a new record, and all the talk about it, and the time they had to make it, I though this could be the best thing they have put out since Hysteria. Boy, I was in for a shock. Im all for changing with the times and al that. And in most cases, Def Leppard records need at least 10 tmes trough your ears to see if your going to like the record ... Read More:

There is a reason that any modern band with progressive, space rock elements is referred to as the "Pink Floyd" of its respective genre. Pink Floyd is a very important figure in rock history, and anyone who claims to be a fan of music should hear this album at least once.
