The classic "The Song Remains the Same" finally made it's way to Blu-ray. I couldn't be happier. The audio portion of this film has been greatly upgraded and sounds amazing. The video portion looks a hell of a lot better than the old VHS copy of this film I was watching it on. It looks great. There is only so much you can do with the old video footage but in no way does it look degraded at all. Maybe a little better than a new VHS copy. Seriously though, it's Zepplin! Need I say more?

When people talk about progressive rock being dull and dated and pretentious, they surely can't be thinking of Aqualung. Jethro Tull's gospel-weary opus may be full of flute solos and lyrics about man's relationship to God, but it still rocks more righteously than anything Guns `N' Roses ever did. There's not a Moog synthesizer or an extended suite to be found (except for the title track, and it's not really all that extended), and pyrotechnical displays of instrumental prowess are kept to a tasteful minimum. Classical influences share space with strains of blues, folk, and a bit of gospel. The lyrics, even when they become abstract, make sense more often than not, and they're almost always poignant. Far and away GnR's best album, this highlights all of what's best about the band. Not content with being hard rock or metal, they explore bluesy territory here, never forgetting the rock part. I typically listen to this album from beginning to end, not skipping a track, and that's hard to say about anything. They wrote this before they got really big, and it lacks the overproduced frills of the Use Your Illusion duet. Stripped down, but still complicated, this is what Rock music is all about. Bad attitudes, drug and alcohol use, longs lines of dumped women... and even occasional true love. For some reason, the cover art features a cross... yeah, now this is what I like about Christianity...

This was the first album I ever bought back in 1988. I remember having my dad take me to the music store and him not understanding why they misspelled "deaf" and "leopard" in the band's name. Anyway, I wore this tape out and I am still not tired of listening to it. It's a more radio friendly version of Def Leppard as the harsh guitar tones have been replaced with the smooth effects-laden guitar tones of the mid to late 80's. I really believe Phil Collen had a big impact on the sound of this record. The style of guitar playing is very different from their earlier material.

Though often overshadowed by The Wall or Dark Side, this is a magnificent album. This is my favorite earlier Floyd album, even though it doesn't get the airplay of the others, it is truly a masterpiece.

A perfect summer record. Edwin sings the heck out of these soul standards and the band plays furiously and sympathetically behind him. Props have to go to Ivan Neville on keyboards...he really adds some of that New Orleans grit to the proceedings.

I'm really digging this CD and highly recommend it to anyone that loves R&B/Soul music.
