There is not a single bad song on this CD. It contains all the favorite titles that made Martha and the Vandellas such a fantastic girl group. The clarity is first rate. I pop it into my CD player whenever I feel the need to groove along to some of the best music around.

If anything, this CD brings home the fact that Martha and the Vandellas, along with other top female groups like the Shangri-Las and the Supremes showed the world that the gals could provide all-male groups with some stiff competition.

If you like Martha and company at all, you cannot go wrong by purchasing this fine and truly Ultimate Collection.

First off, I'll just say it: This is a great album.

Innervisions and Talking Book was 30 years ago, of course this album sounds different. Stevie was 55 at the time, and his maturity shows. That does not make this a bad album. Quite the opposite. The haunting "Moon Blue", the vocally-charged "If Your Love Cannot Be Moved" and the funky "So What The Fuss" are powerful tracks. Stevie also shines on "My Love Is On Fire", a track he initially wrote for Luther Vandross; you can hear the influence.

If you're looking for the rip-roaring funk of the 70's, then look elsewhere. If you're looking for well-crafted music made from one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time, with a taste of jazz, funk, R&B, pop, and everything in between, ... Read More:

Every word in all these reviews about Marvin's soul and artistry is 100% correct There's another reason to own this fantastic collection and that is the presence of the honorable James Jamerson on the electric bass. His beautiful lines, touch and deep tone are still unequaled to this day. Unlike so many bassists who climb to the high notes for notice, Jamerson always found the deep notes that would grab you in the heart. To be able to hear James recreate the fantastic work he did on What's Going On live in concert is priceless to any one who loves his playing.
Long live the King of the Fender bass who did some of his most remarkable work with the King of Soul, Marvin Gaye

BUYER BEWARE: To date (June 2008), this is the only review for this particular product. The other reviews pasted in here by Amazon refer to the original version of this CD. If you want to spend more for an inferior product, then by all means, purchase this !

This is vintage Ray Charles, recorded at age 27. The music itself gets 5 stars for sure. It's clearly oriented toward the jazz/blues side of things, rather than Ray's better known R & B side. The first 6 songs are big band arrangements, with a nice variety of tempos (including a couple of wonderful ballads). The last 6 songs are all ballads, with simple, but lush orchestral arrangements with strings and background vocals. Naturally, Ray's vocals are featured throughout, and he's in top form. ...
