this second opus from the ray soundtrack is incredible just as the first one was. now to say that this isn't great then somebody lied to you jack. every song as in the first one gives you musical sketch of what type artist whom can cross genres at tap of his feet and easily make something happen. i actually love this cd better than the first one. (prolly cuz i got it in reverse order) so if you like the soundtrack, and loved the film then get this one as well. favorite tracks are:

I'm a big Motown fan, and I figured it was time to add some Martha Reeves to my collection. I heard her through an old 'Best of Motown' CD that I bought years ago, and I loved them. So, I felt it was only necessary to add them to my collection.

This one, 1999's '20th Century Masters' is the way to go if your new to this wonderful trio. 'Dancing In The Street,' of course, is their biggest hit. That was actually the song on my old Motown CD, but I liked it a lot. Other highlights for me are 'Jimmy Mack,' 'Heat Wave,' and 'Quicksand.'

So, if you want some more great Motown to add to your collection, don't pass The Vandellas by. They are simply too good to ignore. Highly, highly recommend. Plus, as always, the sound quality ... Read More:

This titled Isley's album is probably their most underrated recording ever. These tunes were hot and funky. "Lover's Eve" is definitely their most underrated ballad. This is an Isley's collector item. Please do go and cop it if you do not have it.

BUYER BEWARE: To date (June 2008), this is the only review for this particular product. The other reviews pasted in here by Amazon refer to the original version of this CD. If you want to spend more for an inferior product, then by all means, purchase this !

This is vintage Ray Charles, recorded at age 27. The music itself gets 5 stars for sure. It's clearly oriented toward the jazz/blues side of things, rather than Ray's better known R & B side. The first 6 songs are big band arrangements, with a nice variety of tempos (including a couple of wonderful ballads). After entering the 80's with Hotter Than July that gave him great success and performing the massive hit "Ebony And Ivory" on with Paul McCartney (for his album Tug Of War that reached #1 on both sides of the Atlantic Stevie Wonder's next move was another soundtrack album (his second after "Secret Life of Plants") but this time around it was to a blockbuster film and all of the songs were radio friendly pop songs, not instrumentals other then "It's More Then You" that wasn't written or performed by him. It was also partly a duet album with Dionne Warwick, where 2 songs were duets and 1 song solely performed by Ms Warwick. All of those 3 songs were rather forgetable ballads though. What an amazing cd. Disco had its time and there was some quality music and some that was very subpar. Diana Ross shined with disco and did some of her best work. I was going to the clubs when this album was released and anyone from that time period knows how awesome it was when THE BOSS started playing. That song made the crowds go wild. It was a disco anthem and a true classic.

But this whole cd shines. NO ONE GETS THE PRIZE and I AIN'T BEEN LICKED are also both amazing. ALL FOR ONE and I'M IN THE WORLD are also awesome. Seriously, you can't go wrong with this cd. You have dance tracks at their highest caliber and most glorious plus some excellent ballads. A perfect set.
