A friend of mine got this for her son about 3 years ago and he's still listening to the stories. Its calming and interesting. Its great in the car. The story goes along with the movements of the piece and really brings classical music and a great story to children. I now get this for all my friends with babies and small children.

I just adore Italian singers and found Vittorio a year ago. His voice is higher and delicate and he
composes this songs with a contemporary twist using electric guitar at times. I would not consider him a classical-type singer. I also love Alessandro Safina who has a lower more powerful voice. I recommend Vittorio's CD as it has 3-4 English sung songs which showcases his voice in a slightly different way.

In honor of the 100th year of Olivier Messiaen's birth comes this six-disc set of some of his most groundbreaking and beautiful music. The protean composer was one of the 20th century's major visionaries as well as one of its most accessible artists, a claim few other musicians can make. While his output is immense, this box set functions both as a wonderful entry point for those unfamiliar with his work, and a welcome addition to the most ardent Messian fan's collection. An added bonus is the presence of two of the most gifted interpreters of his music: the virtuoso pianist Yvonne Loriod (Messiaen's widow), and legendary conductor/composer Pierre Boulez. The first two discs are devoted to Messiaen's "The Transfiguration of Christ," a monumental ... Read More:

I'm completely in love with this album, both the performances and the music itself. I know there is a diversity of opinion about a group like Anonymous 4 performing music like this, and I can understand why. They don't do a typical "period" performance of the works, which usually comes out as dry as a stick and about as interesting (and yet still inaccurate somehow). But they also aren't ignoring what scholars have learned about performance practice either. They have managed to strike a balance between the two, and the performances come off as fresh, tasteful and engaging in a genre that has all but fallen off the map.
The music itself presents an interesting sound that will be largely unfamiliar to contemporary listeners. Many ... Read More:

I love his music, but this CD would not play correctly. I tried it on 4 different CD players. It played like the old vinyl when they would get scratched. Was unbelievable because I can't return it after opening it. Not buying any more CD's from Amazon. I didn't want to give it any stars, but had to in order to send this review.

After hearing a selection from this CD on NPR, I knew I had to purchase a copy. I bought a copy for myself and also as a gift. David Russell takes his guitar to a place that touches your soul and makes your heart sing along. Even if you are not a fan of classical music you will love this CD.

I play this for my son when he is going to sleep and it is enjoyable for both of us. A few of the songs are a little "off" the purely soothing edge, but it's still very nice.

I ordered this last minute for my father for Christmas. It got here when it was promised and I was suprised. Thank you so much for making his Christmas!

Many years ago I heard a performance of Van Cliburn playing Rachmaninov's third piano concero live from Moscow in 1958 on WQXR. I greatly admired his live performance from Carnegie Hall recorded in 1958 and issued on RCA, but this peformance was slightly different, seemingly more relaxed. I was able to tape a portion of it at that time and heard it again in its entirety online several years ago. This is that performance, readily available for the first time. The video is reasonably clear, as is the audio; however, the video and audio are frequently out of sync, which is particularly annoying during the first movement cadenza.
The encores are enjoyable-I particularly enjoyed the reaction of the musicians in the Moscow Philharmonic. The ... Read More:

After years of searching for my favorite version of the Horn concertos I found this one thanks to the recommendation of the penguin guide (they're good for some things y'know).
I've heard about a dozen versions and never settled on any of them (even the Brain and the other Tuckwell's).
This version should be the best example to Tuckwell's art. He brings out the depth and range of the instrument while staying commited to beauty and life.
The recording actually sounds like a live recording or like they didn't talk about anything at all...just went in there like geniuses and taped them down in one session!
Tuckwell and Marriner are truly insipred in this recording. Tuckwell is daring, strong, and ... Read More:
