Clannad is a genuine Irish band, well known for their haunting music that is a mix of traditional Irish and modern pop and jazz styles. (As a footnote, the popular singer Enya got her start with Clannad!) The music itself is hard to categorize - would you like to call it New Age, or Easy Listening? Well, it's sort of both, and really neither. This is great music, relaxing and thoughtful, almost religious in tone.
I love this album, and enjoy playing it just about all the time. I really love Ancient Forest and Buachaill On Eirne, but they are all great tunes! I highly recommend it to everyone who loves good music!

Whenever you think of "the best of" series, you should think of Altan because their "The Best of" is really THE BEST OF!!!!
Release Date September 09, 2003
THis cd is really great. I enjoy Don WIlliams Wild Mt Thyme very much, but members of my family think it should have went to a woman. Wait...that's the thing that makes this cd not awesome, the women singing tradtional male songs. It seems bothersome, especially Roseann Cash. But all in all, I do love the cd.

I first bought this on cassette over ten years ago and was thrilled to find it on CD recently, since I no longer own a tape player. It is such a soothing, joyful album. The companion CDs are great, too, but this one remains one of my favorites.

Karan Casey's voice is the main reason for buying this album. What else is there? Well, there are sets of jigs and reels that are as jiggy and reelly as you could wish for, if you like that kind of thing. Also, Iris DeMent joins Casey on "Song of Choice" and it is great to hear these two fine and distinctive voices together, even though the song itself is unremarkable. It would be wonderful to hear more of them as a duo.
The weak points are the two songs in Gaelic -- which gain nothing by being sung in the original (unless of course you speak the language) -- and the dreadful La Bruxa, a painful squeezebox effort that might earn a busker a few centimes (or Euros) outside the Paris Metro, but does not belong here. Otherwise, the musicianship ... Read More:

I bought this CD when it first came out and to this day it remains one of my all-time favorites. Some of the songs are hauntingly beautiful. I love the lead singer's voice.
Release Date November 14, 2000
I was going to rate this 4 stars, because I was unhappy to find so many instrumental tracks. They are pretty (though nothing special), but there are 6 of them. Out of twelve that's disappointing, but then I read the booklet and found that there are an additional 2 tracks you can get on the computer. One of them is called Story, which is more of a spoken poem; the other I'm not sure but I'm calling it Far Away and it's very beautiful.
A lovely album altogether.
About the extra tracks, you can get them only on the computer. For windows I'm not sure, but the 'presentation' doesn't work on my Mac. However, you can access the folder called 'gary media' and drag the tracks to iTunes (or your desktop). Along with the two complete songs, you also get a lot ... Read More:

This first CD by Solas is an excellent debut album for the group featuring roaring tunes and heart-warming songs, a trend that continues onto the followup album. This album has both beautiful and foot-stomping moments.
All the musicians are at the top of their form. Karan Casey brings a unique and beautiful voice. John Williams is at the top of his game on the box and is definitely the highlight of the album. John Doyle's unique guitar style is taking shape here and it's interesting to see what a delightful style he has created (listen to "In Play" by Liz Carroll and John Doyle for some of his best work). Winifred Horan is definitely an excellent fiddler (although she doesn't stand out as much as the rest of the band) and Seamus Egan is, of course, amazing ... Read More:

I have been using the CD for my daily yoga practice. Great traditional Irish music. I always love the band so it doesnt matter which CD, I always love theirs. My favorites are Peggy Gordon and My Lagan Love.
