This album, is now my favorite, they perform Celtic music in a most eloquent fashion. The duo is basically half of a string quartet, and this is apparent in the styling of the music, which adds a dimension to traditional Scottish music. I have been a fan of Alisdar for several years, and own several of his albums, solo, and with Paul Machlis. They play so passionately, it is hard to describe here, so listen for yourself.

Also, I had the pleasure of seeing them live in concert several days ago when they came to town. It was an experience I will cherish. They played many songs from this album. If they are playing in your town, by all means, go see them. And prepare to get up and dance during the encore!!

There are movies where the soundtrack plays on, and it adds to the theme of the movie. Then there are movies, where the soundtrack adds nothing. And then, there are movies where the soundtrack more than adds to the movie.

The soundtrack of "In Bruges" must fall in the third category. I can't recollect many soundtracks that accentuate the mood of the movie it is supposed to hold up, especially a movie as complex as "In Bruges".

To be honest, I'd not heard of Carter Burwell before this soundtrack, but I was watching this movie earlier today, and the background music moved me so much, that I stopped the movie (was on DVD!), went online and bought the soundtrack right then and there! This is a wonderful CD containing a variety of traditional Irish, classical and contemporary music. The majority contains vocals by some of the most talented soloists Ireland has to offer, but some of the tracks are fantastic instrumental numbers by the groups violinist, Mairead Nesbitt. She will delight you with her traditional sound and her mastery of the instrument.

I brought the Some Devil CD after watching a DVD with DMB's music.
I ran into Stand Up and I was interested as I liked what I heard on Some Devil and the picture on this Cd promised like music, so I thought. I gave it away. It really dissappointed me. I don't know that it's worth buying more of his music. Cult music is usually for specific groups and I'm not a groupee.

A fine album, with an interesting choice of songs. "Foggy Dew" and "The Long Black Veil" are especially moving.

For those seeking chipper pub music, look elsewhere. This is a fine, reflective view of Irish music. Top notch, all the way.

For serious Irish music, you can't do better than this.

The liner notes tell us that it was only after Loreena McKennitt had intensively studied and deeply imbibed the Celtic tradition that she felt confident enough to take her own first halting musical steps. Well here they are on Elemental and they are truly more exalted than halting.
My journey through the work of Loreena McKennitt started several years ago with The Book of Secrets and I have since followed her career both backward and forward. I picked this CD up on sale at a favorite Encinitas music store and it has since only added to my enjoyment of her work.
