I got this CD as a gift for my Birthday. This is the first celtic CD in my collection and I must say, a great addition to it. This is a very good introduction to celtic music. The CD/DVD combo for this price at Amazon, is a steal.

I dont know what else to say in here that is not already covered, only this is now my 9th Van CD on my ipod. while allot of all bleeds together in "sameness" it just works. I use shuffle and my pod is on most of the day, so this kind of music along with classical opera and bluegrass just seems to work great for all day listening.

We bought this CD for our baby after friends recommended it. The music is absolutely gorgeous-- so beautiful that you don't mind listening to it over and over again. We play this every night as the baby goes to sleep, and when he hears the music start he turns to the CD player and grins. How's that for positive feedback? I will definitely be giving this CD to friends who are expecting. It's one of our very favorite baby items.

This is an outstanding follow up album to their hit Renaissance. Amazing vocals and instramentals. It's a little less medieval than their earlier three albums, but it's still well worthwhile. While often billed as "dark" or "pagan" it's really enlightening and soothing folk music of the celtic variety (even though sung in German).

Highly recommended for all who enjoy good folk music; even more so if you enjoy a folksy trip back in time to the sound of pipes and strings.

I bought this CD using a gift certificate, so it doesn't bother me
too much that there are only 3 songs on it! They are beautiful pieces but
I might not have paid full price for them otherwise.

Rogha: The Best of Clannad

This collection of 19 songs entitled "Rogha:The Best of Clannad" might sound like a comprehensive retrospective of their work but it is a bit of a misnomer. It actually only spans the years of 1983 to no later than 1987 during their "Sirius" album which makes this album more of a 'Sampler 1983-87' CD in my book.

That is not to discredit this album though. In fact, I think it's a marvelous collection of songs that strike a perfect balance between their more traditional pre-Magical Ring era and the Post-Sirius releases.

Some tracks like "Searchrain Charin Tsiail", "Ancient Forest", "Buachaill In Eire", are easily in the neighborhood of their early years and should satisfy those who aren't into albums like "Banba" or later.

If you want to know how sea chanties originally sounded on the decks and under them back in the 18th and 19th centuries, this is an album for you. It can be a time-consuming process to sort through the load of sea chanty albums out there that when you're trying to find the traditional sound. Therefore, if you like the sound of this album I also recommend the following albums, composed by various performers including some on this album: Shanties & Songs of the Sea; Round Cape Horn; Sailors' Songs & Sea Shanties. These albums have a great mix of emotion in them, from rip-roarin' drinking songs to inspirational working songs to melancholy tunes about ships that were swallowed up by the sea.
