We enjoyed the fact that this CD follows the tradition of pub songs and ballads. My husband and I surprisingly liked the ballads as much or more than the pub songs. Only 1 song has tonal quality because the singer forgot the words and the backup musicians don't come through strong enough; but that actually adds character to it since you know it is not being performed in a sterile recording booth somewhere. Enjoyed it!
Polygram ceased production of its portion of Van-The-Man's catalog, resulting in 29 titles, two-thirds of his entire recorded output, remaining frustratingly unavailable for the past several years. Even more regrettably, sixteen of those OOP titles had been fabulously remastered and re-released in 1998. Accordingly, prices for these had soared, especially for the remastered titles.
Then, in late 2007, The Announcement! All 29 OOP titles would be re-released in 2008! With new remastering! Extra tracks! Even mini-sleeve editions from Japan!
Well, fellow audiophiles and mini-sleeve aficionados, the hyperbole is unfortunately only half-true: Those 16 1998 remastered titles? Except for the bonus tracks, the 2008 ... Read More:

...its the real stuff with the Clancys and Tommy Makem. Its not bubble gum folk music. Its not Peter, Paul and Mary ffs...hehe...I have this album on vinyl. Original copy. I have nearly played it to death since I was a kid. I highly recommend this - NOT for some yuppie St. Patrick's day (ugh!) brunch. But just listen to this anytime. I personally take these guys seriously. But its fun and vivid and youll go places with this one. My favorite songs here are Jug of Punch, Johnny I hardly Knew ye, and Ballinderry- which is sung by Tommy Makem and i promise youll cry...but the tears will be welcomed. Makems voice was/is unmatched!
Its like another world in your ear that leads to your heart and goes into your soul......sound corny?....just buy ... Read More:

Tree by Gaelic Storm is an amazing album with such vivid sounds. The use of celtic instruments with a touch of American modernism brings this album to its full potential in a new age of sounds and harmony. With such tracks as "Swimmin' In The Sea" and "Johnny Tarr" the band shows its ability to play songs that make the listener feel good. This album makes you wish you were Irish. With the addition of a female voice, the sounds call even more to the listener. "Mary's Eyes" reveals the celtic sentiment and "Black Is the Colour" boasts of romantic appeal. These tracks are a great example of the talent and diverse sounds that make up Gaelic Storm.

Forgiven, Not Forgotten, their first album and the truest to their essence. It's a perfect mix of pop/rock and celtic elements that also has a certain mysterious athmosphere about it that is absolutely charming.

i must admit that i heard this on a recorded tape while i was waiting for a girl i was babysitting to fall asleep, and i may have missed the last song or two, but what i heard was amazing. this woman's music is beautiful--you lose yourself in her lyrics, her voice, and her stunning guitar riffs: especially when you expect to hear a child's lullaby tape, and you get kate rusby. someone you may never have heard of, but if you know one thing, you know that as soon as you can get to the store you're going to buy her cd.

We saw Carbon Leaf for the second time last night at World Cafe Live in Philly. They performed some songs that they haven't done in a while as well as their standards.
When they finished singing "The War Is In Color", a friend turned to me and said "That song alone was worth the price of the tickets." It's also worth the price of this album. It's an astounding, incredibly powerful song--some of their best lyric writing--and that's saying something.
But there is lots more to enjoy on this album. It's not "Indian Summer"; it's different, and that's fine. I probably play "Indian Summer" more, but I'm glad I know this album too.
