Several here have already written lengthy reviews that I agree with, so I'll just hit two key points:

1. IF YOU'RE NEW TO BOB MARLEY OR REGGAE IN GENERAL, THIS SET IS A GREAT PLACE TO START! It has pretty much all the hits from his entire career as well as some lesser known gems. I'm not even a big reggae fan, but my wife got me hooked on Bob Marley, and after hearing the 14 or so cuts on the "Legend" cd, I wanted more. Here, across 34 tracks on 2 cd's, there's just not many songs you'll feel compelled to skip. If the price of this 2cd set is still a little high, you may consider the multi-platinum "Legend" cd instead, but be warned: "Legend" gives you just 14 or so tracks while "Gold" is just a coupla bucks more and gives ... !975.. I was living in London and saw 2 amazing gigs that year.. Bruce Springsteen.. Yes that gig. The DVD reminds of a very younger Bruce and an even younger me..

I also caught Bob and the mighty Wailers on the second night of a 3 gig series at the Lyceum. It was Thursday if I remember rightly and the support was Third World.. I'm not sure which night this record comes from.

The set was quite short, round about an hour and 20 minutes. It seemed to be over in a flash but remains possibly one of the best gigs I've ever caught.

I had this on vinyl and must upgrade soon.

A truly wonderful performance from reggae's greatest star..

i will focus on the brasil part in this review. as other reviewers have noted, joao was at his finest on some amoroso tracks but the production is unbearable at times.
the voices on brasil are familiar to anyone who is a fan of brazilian music: gilberto gil, caetano veloso, joao gilberto, and maria bethania are among the greatest superstars all time of brazilian music individually. and on this album they all come together to play joao gilberto's style of music. i'm not sure about bethania but gil and caetano were avid joao fans. however they had never tried to replicate his sound. tropicalia's musical influences certainly included joao but were nothing like his music. in this 1981 release, we here straight bossa nova. joao plays beautifully. the ... Ultra-Lounge, Vol. 2: Mambo Fever is a solid installment in this CD series of lounge music mostly from the 1950s and 1960s. The quality of the recordings is excellent; they've been polished up nicely. The artwork is wonderful; and don't forget to look for those drink recipes in the liner notes!

Don Swan & His Orchestra start things off with their cha cha version of "Hooray For Hollywood (Cha-Cha)." This really sounds great and it's still perfect for dancing with your sweetheart late at night in the privacy of your living room all alone. The melody gets a lot of strength from the drums and percussion, too. Jackie Davis and his musicians perform a lively rendition of Peggy Lee and David Barbour's "Mañana (Is Soon Enough For Me)."
