Oh Man, This cd is so cool! I loved every ineterpretation and rendering! Hey I'm young , but I realize this is lounge and not mean't to usurp or dinegrate the original, so some of you peeps lighten-up! It's fab! These songs do make you think of times when cars were sleek and clothes actually fit people! The 60's were a mixed bag and that's what I love about this music, you could have hard rock, pop and lounge and they all co-existed...what an awesome world to have lived in. I would give this cd 10 stars if possible!

Torch Songs is an excellent two CD set of excellent torch songs sung by some of the greatest female vocalists of the twentieth century. The sound quality is excellent and the artwork is very nicely done. This is a fine two CD set indeed!

Etta James starts things off with a jazzy rendition of "The Man I Love." Etta never sounded better and she manages to play a bit with the tempo so that she can out her own stamp on this classic ballad! The piano arrangement is very elegant, too. Peggy Lee scores a hit with her "I Wanna Be Around;" I first heard this sung by Tony Bennett but when Peggy sings it this ballad sounds fresh and new all over again! Great!

Although the solid fan base of Jane Olivor's voice and music were not as inticed by this release as her earlier gems, those who appreciate a more "mainstream" or "commercial" sound will probably find this album quite to their liking. The album was intentionally produced by various music industry standouts in that vein. Unfortunately, despite it having the highest Billboard chart position of any of her albums (#58), it was not what the bulk of her following expected of her. The Very Best of Peter Allen: The Boy from Down Under

Peter Allen was a somewhat underrated singer-songwriter and entertainer. His songs ranged in different styles. This album (entitled "The Boy From Down Under" to avoid confusion with THE BOY FROM OZ musical) He was a great performer, the first male dancer to perform with the Rockettes and won the Oscar to "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)". The album does include his own cover of the Christopher Cross classic from hisCaptured Live at Carnegie Hall album which has been badly edited on CD... Hopefully one day some of his earlier work such as 1972's TENTERFIELD SADDLER and 1976's TAUGHT BY EXPERT released on CD.
Triva note: The only line from "Arthur's Theme" Peter Allen actually contributed was "When you get caught between the moon and New York City".
