Bobby Short has to be the leading Cole Porter interpreter today. It's hard not to think of Short and not picture him singing Porter. As for Cole Porter he is simplely the GREATEST composer that ever lived. In my opinion. I never heard Short sing some of the songs on this album and was wondering when he would record them. For instance "What Is This Thing Called Love" which is a or should I say WAS a very popular song. There's something extra here in this album,Short now works with a orchestra. Also he has Howard Alden playing his great guitar. I happened to hear Alden in the movie "Sweet and Lowdown". Short once again makes a great album. If your a fan of Cole Porter's music or Bobby Short...YOU HAVE TO GET THIS!

As a huge long time fan of both Shearing and Feinstein and collecting both, I was disappointed in this pairing. Mostly it's Feinstein too soft, too slow and no changes in vocal coloring - everything sounds the same - lacking any energy. If you want a CD totally mellow and perhaps sleep inducing, this is the one for you. I expect more from Feinstein. Shearing is perfect, as always! Frankly, Feinstein has lost out in my collection to Michael Ball who really can sing anything perfectly!

I have been wanting a Charles Aznavour collection CD for a while and thought that this would be it. I was particularly interseted in some key songs of his, such as L'amour cest comme un jour, which is not the original version I have on an old vinyl. This was particularly dissapointing. Overall the quality of the recording lacks the bass (tone) I associate with versions of Aznavour I have heard on older vinyl recordings.

Very few of us lesser mortals can compete with the genius of Noel Coward, however we certainly can enjoy it! A master of lyric, pun, innendo, and rhyme, Noel will keep all laughing throughout this collection.

Tierney Sutton has created an exciting, fresh approach to old standards that is simply wonderful with an excellent group of instrumentalists. Turn it on and let it roll over you.

Recognized for years as a Jazz Classic, an essential recording . . . one of those desert island recordings; there is very little that can be added that has not already been written about this recording. The qualities of these great artists came together on this very special recording. It is simply that good. The technology through the years has improved and fortunately the remastering of this classic has been done well enough to give honor to the original vinyl rendering.
Hartman sounds as if he were in your room while Coltrane simplifies his music to support the vocal (his only recording to do so). It takes genius and great self esteem to keep it within the boundaries of the entire ensemble. Coltrane did this on this recording to ... Read More:

I discovered Ute Lemper through a Canadian concert in honour of Piaf. Since getting this disc via Amazon, I am convinced that I should try to get more of her works. She is terrific.
Release Date April 25, 2000
First there was Mantovani with his strings, then Bert Kaempfert added guitars and trumpet to strings, and next came James Last who used full orchestration and voices. The selections on this particular album are very good with 'Elizabethan Serenade'and one of my favourites 'Whiter Shade of Pale' being the standouts. A different version of 'What Now My Love'. The sound quality on this Spectrum label leaves a lot to be desired but other than that, it's not bad.
Release Date January 10, 1995
There is not another one who could touch her for sheer talent and heart! "La Baker" moves me deeply on this stereo recording. The orchestra is great! This is a treasure in my collection!
Release Date August 21, 2007
I'm a James Last fan anyway, but this is a CD I will play a lot during the Christmas season. I have many Christmas CDs but this will be one of my favorites.
I have listened to German Christmas songs for many years and this well-done CD brings back many good memories. The sound reproduction is very clear. There isn't a track on this CD I don't like!! Its very well done.
