Well, I think with a possible moments pause here, that I would respond to the question posed by my review title with an affirmative. This collection brings together for the very first (but doubtfully the last) time the early Piaf recordings originally owned by Polydor (1936-45) together with the Pathe Marconi years, 1946-63. It also includes many rarities, alternative takes and a representation of the Carnegie Hall 1956/7 shows. It is certainly the definitive Piaf, if not actually the "complete" recordings.
On a positive note, the remastering is absolutely crystal clear with good deep sound staging and wonderful lifelike resolution of detail. Please remember these recordings are old though and you can't expect todays sound quality ... Read More:

This wonderful album should be considered by all kinds of music lovers - from Classical music lovers to Jazz buffs to those who have started to become a little bored with Pop/Rock music!
Paris Combo, on this album, features wonderful and stylish vocals [from Belle, the sing/songwriter], very attractive and never bland instrumental accompaniments and the songs themselves are full of style and characer.
Along with the self-titled "Paris Combo" album, this is clearly my favourite so far! However, ALL of the Paris Combo albums are excellent and I enjoy hearing them at any time of the day or night.

"These songs are indeed about romance. But to me there is a broader and more personal attachment to each of the songs than the standard definition of romantic love might imply. I think that these songs represent the strength of love, including the love of family and friends. But rather than describing my own thoughts about each song, it is my hope that all of you who listen to the music and read the lyrics will discover and imagine your own personal "love scenes" among the mountains, oceans, rain and gardens of these songs." ~ Diana Krall ~
With this charmingly romantic CD "Love Scenes," Diana Krall once again has proven that she's got what it takes to be a modern-day jazz diva. Over the years, I've had the great pleasure of listening to some of ... Read More:

Bea Arthur finally releases her Broadway album, and the highlights are too many to mention. My personal favorites were her memories of Angela Lansbury, Talulah, and the very funny (yet not original) jokes (especially the ones about the nun and the cab driver).
The thing is, Bea has never been much of a songstress or vocalist - she has a deep voice with a very flat quality, which makes even her 'high' notes sound about exactly as the same as her low ones. This may or may not be a good thing, but the focus on the CD is the entire show itself. Bea positions herself as host, singer, stand-up comedian, storyteller, and world observer, and all of these roles meld into one another with remarkable ease.
Whats more important - everything works. I could ... Read More:

There were five ladies who held their own on the charts throughout the earliest years of the birth of R&R, and three are among the first four appearing in this compilation from Collectables. Two are in the R&R Hall Of Fame - and the other one should be.
LaVern Baker, who leads off with her late 1956/early 1957 smash Jim Dandy (# 1 R&B/# 17 Billboard Pop Top 100 billed to LaVern Baker and The Gliders) was inducted in 1991. Brenda Lee, who appears on the 4th track with her 1960 hit Sweet Nothin's (# 4 Billboard Pop Hot 100.@ 12 R&B) was so honoured in 2002. Connie Francis, who racked up 56 Pop hits, and saw 8 cross over to the R&B charts, including the featured tune Lipstick On Your Collar (# 5 Hot 100/# 10 R&B in summer 1959), is still on the outside looking in! I am not a jazz or music expert, but Billie Holiday is my favorite vocalist, period. However, most of the other collections I have of hers (and admittedly, it's pretty limited) seem unable to divorce her public persona from her music. We know about her personal struggles, and it almost seems as if other producers have arranged her songs to reflect the inevitable downward spiral we know will come.
This album, however, hits the perfect Billie Holiday pitch. For the first few songs, she's young, maybe slightly hopeful, but definitely a little haunted. For the bulk of the songs in the middle, she's romantic, but edgy with cynicism about her experiences and weaknesses. The tragedy seems to have arrived by the last three tracks, but even still, it's not so hopeless that ... Read More:
