Bea Arthur finally releases her Broadway album, and the highlights are too many to mention. My personal favorites were her memories of Angela Lansbury, Talulah, and the very funny (yet not original) jokes (especially the ones about the nun and the cab driver).
The thing is, Bea has never been much of a songstress or vocalist - she has a deep voice with a very flat quality, which makes even her 'high' notes sound about exactly as the same as her low ones. This may or may not be a good thing, but the focus on the CD is the entire show itself. Bea positions herself as host, singer, stand-up comedian, storyteller, and world observer, and all of these roles meld into one another with remarkable ease.

The song "Tell Me More and Then Some" on this album is so terrific I have it on repeat play--others ask me for mercy, but hey, this is is as good as music gets. The vocalist and band are in perfect synchrony for some of the most fascinating tempo/lyrical interplay you will EVER hear. You will LOVE this one. Jacqui "sings low" and she can really deliver.

Very good compilation for this great singer. A very good souvenir from the 50's in different languages (German, English, French).

I was going through some old albums recently and rediscovered Jane Olivor and remembered how much I enjoyed her voice. I went on the web and was delighted to find that she had done some recent stuff. I was thrilled to hear her wonderful unique voice again on the live album.
But that was 4yrs. ago now and that leaves me with the question as to whether she is planning on doing any more recording? It would be a shame if not!

Hugh Jackman made an incredible debut as the legendary (if somewhat little known) Aussie singer songwriter. The problem with bringing this show to Broadway is that people basically remembered Allen for starring in the flop musical "Legs Diamond" (some of the songs are resurructed from that score) Although some somes are out of place and sung by the wrong character ("Don't Wish Too Hard was sung in the Australian production during Peter and Liza's wedding while Judy sings it here.
For future productions it should come later because it is a disco song.
And of course "The Best That You Can Do" was written in 1982)
Many of the "Ozalots" (the show's fans want it made into a movie. With Hugh's busy movie schedule and a possible return to ... Read More:
So, if you're in the mood for a pulls-out-all-the-stops, "Grand Production" number, you'll find none on any of his DVDs that's moreso than Mikey's rendition of the "Fascinating Rhythm" medley.
But you can't stop there, oh, no. If what you want (and I so do) is his "fun-est" number ever (except, maybe, something from "Pure Imagination"....and that's just for kids--Ha, Ha), then grab a listen to his "Anything for You." If it doesn't stoke your fires for the next month, I don't know what will. (Oh, yeah, the title track's a kick, too).

Had a 50th birthday party in NYC.Some of my friends and I took the trip together from California.I had purchased this as a gift for them. All the songs were wonderful and most became an anthem for us as we drank and dined our way through that great city.
Release Date August 20, 1990
I agree with those who find some of the guest stars to be a bit dated (Bryan Adams, The Hooters) but can you argue with their performances?
To me, not having heard some of these songs since the heady days of high school, this is a revelation. Kudos especially to Garth Hudson, of The Band, who delivers a great sax and accordian solo. Joni sounds amazing, Van The Man rocks it, and while I can do without Jerry Hall, in context it really doesn't sound too bad.
But the songwriting, and arrangements, sound as great as ever.
If you like the original, you really should pick this up for a second look at these timeless classics.

Roger Waters' The Wall in Berlin was released in September of 1990.
This performance of The Wall was first recorded on July 21, 1990 and I heard the original radio broadcast.
Although this is a live album, portions of it were taken from a re-do of the show after the original performance and the previous night's dress rehearsal. The original radio broadcast had the microphones all messing up and the power going out during The Thin Ice and Mother.
Initially, in a July, 1989 radio interview, Roger initially thought of having ex-bandmates David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright play with him. Even David went through lawyers to get the OK to do it when asked at the Knebworth 1990 show backstage but then Roger shot down his ex-bandmates' offer in early July ... Read More:
