This I Promise You: Remixes

CD-Charts > Music > CD Singles
by: *NSYNC

Release Date November 21, 2000
I bought this single because I thought it would be nice to hear the remixes of my favorite song off the "No Strings Attached" album, and well, I'm so glad I did. This is the first remix cd I've ever heard with GREAT remixes. Hats off to Mr. Hex Hector who had the guys re-record their vocals...so they fit with the beats and slightly re-arranged melody PERFECTLY! And "Yo Te Voy Amar" is gorgeously done and also fun to guess which pronunciation each member is using...thank you Mr. Timberlake for your S. American accent and to Mr. Chasez for a slight Spanish/Mexican accent. All in all DEFINITELY worth buying!!!

I'll Remember

CD-Charts > Music > CD Singles
by: Madonna

Release Date April 28, 1994
This song, "I'll Remember", is soooo beautiful and meaningful. It's got a kind of African beat at the beginning, then Madonna's soothing vocals and charming lyrics. The Girlie Show version of "Why's It So Hard" is great, Madonna's voice has never been so alive.
Also, check out "With Honors", the movie that this song is from. It's an amazing movie.

Sweet and Tender Hooligan

CD-Charts > Music > CD Singles
by: The Smiths

Release Date May 23, 1995
The Smiths are one of my favorite bands, but this single just isn't very good. "Sweet and Tender Hooligan" is a great song, but the three extra tracks just aren't up to the high standard that The Smiths set with four amazing albums and plethora of stand-alone singles. If you're a completest, a review won't stop you from buying this. For everyone else, however, it just isn't worth the cash.

Pyramid Song, Pt. 2

CD-Charts > Music > CD Singles
by: Radiohead

Release Date June 19, 2001
Since the release of Ok Computer, Radiohead have been known for their creative song writing and interesting production. This incredible single is a perfect demonstration of how creative they can be both in terms of writing and production, and the result is beautiful.

'Pyramid Song' is an emotive and eerily beautiful piece of music. The song is built upon a relatively simple (but certainly not common) repeating chord progression played on the piano, over which subtly eerie orchestral sounds echo, before Yorke's gentle vocals enter. The timing is unusual yet comfortable, and upon first listen you may think that there's no definate timing at all. About two minutes in, strings become more prominant, and the calmly jazzy rhythm reveals itself on the drums, ... Read More:

City of Blinding Lights

CD-Charts > Music > CD Singles
by: U2

Release Date June 20, 2005
I really enjoy U2's B sides, which is the only reason to purchase this, considering most of us already have the CD version. "City of Blinding Lights" on its own is an outstanding track, but I was a bit disappointed in the live cuts. "The Fly" sounds uninspired and like Bono is singing into a megaphone. "Even Better Than the Real Thing" is an improvement, but it lacks the energy of other live tunes. After the original listening, it wound up in my collection as more of an afterthought, though no regret in purchasing it. It just doesn't compare well with other B sides the band has released.

by: Oasis

Release Date November 06, 1995
Such a great, durable song. It's just the greatness of the melody and all those little touches-- the sweet piano sprinkled in, the shameless cue-cello, and Liam Gallagher's endearing delivery-- he sounds like the last man on earth to be singing a tender ballad; he has like a pub-crawler voice, and you can almost hear the spit hitting the mike on the 'b' when he says "By now, you should've somehow..." But the voice fits the subject -- a marred and scarred guy looking for saving grace. His half-convinced "because maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves that me.." sounds completely genuine.

Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do

CD-Charts > Music > CD Singles
by: Sigur Rós

Release Date March 23, 2004
I've read several of the reviews here that both liked and did not like this album, but there was one thing in common with ALL of them... No one seemed to know the origins of the album. In the case of Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do, that is the single most important thing in understanding/appreciating the music. CONTEXT.

American choreographer Merce Cunningham made a dance piece / ballet entitled "Split Sides." The idea was that there were two lighting arrangements, two soundtracks, two of everything that could be interchanged from one half of the show to the other. He got Sigur Ros to write half of the music (Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do), and he got Radiohead to write the other half (music they chose not to release). The music was a collaborative effort with cunningham and his ... Read More:

Something About the Way You Look Tonight

CD-Charts > Music > CD Singles
by: Elton John

Release Date September 27, 1997
When Princess Diana was killed in that 1997 car accident, the world all but went into convulsions. I have to say it; I was adamantly NOT one of them. But Elton John was close to her (and to Gianni Versace - the infamous video of Elton and Diana at Verscse's memorial service), and his grief carried into this moment. He was so swept up in the time that he recast "Candle In The Wind," one of his strongest melodies, as a tribute and even rewrote the lyric. The result became a number-one song all over the world, and the all-time greatest selling single. That makes it, as a tribute, a monumental achievement.

By that measure, this is certainly a classic. The original A-side, "Something In The Way You Look Tonight," is one of the better songs from the otherwise lackluster ... Read More:

by: U2

Release Date November 15, 2004
Let's face it... There are probably only a few reasons anyone would purchase this CD:

1. You are a completist (and the rating doesn't matter)

2. You want the B-Side.

If you are in category 1, go for it (I did). If you are in category 2, save the money. The single version of Vertigo is not any different than the album version. The B-Side can probably be easily found on I-Tunes or other online dealer for around $1. In fact, I don't find this B-Side to be one of U2's better ones. It is a decent song, but is any song really worth a $10 plus purchase? In general, U2's B-Sides have shown a definite decline, probably because little work is put into their production making these B-Sides effectively little more than demos.
