We love the cd's in this series. We listen to them on car drives and they have added so very much to our lives. Thanks to this series my 7 year old daughter can recognize the compositions of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi while listening to the classical station on the radio. What a fun way for a family to become familiar with classical music.
But the story line of this one is a bit too sad for small children. If the cd had a warning, something like " best for children over 9 years old", or something like that I would have appreciated it. My daughter became quite frightened listening to the story and so I put it away. Maybe in a few years.....

The Carnegie Hall event celebrating the work of Stephen Sondheim will most likely never have a sequel, nor in some cases, better interpreters. Briefly, the late and underestimated Madeline Kahn blazing through "Getting Married Today", the estimable Dorothy Loudon combining a torch song with a comic response that brings down the house and Bernadette Peters doing full justice to "Not a Day Goes By" from Merrily We Roll Along, one of Sondheim's few commercial failures. But the best is near the last, with Glenn Close giving a beautiful version of the all too overused "Send in the Clowns" (perhaps the best rendition ever) and the closing hymn "Sunday", from Sunday in the Park With George magnificently sung by a choir, nearly as perfect as being able ... "Chelsea hotel" by Lloyd Cole may very well be the worst cover in history. What madness would provoke someone to turn this great song into an upbeat softrock abortion? I love the drumming especially, wow, it makes me want to drive screwdrivers into my ears. And how it falls off after the chorus, So dramatic! -- like the buildup of a cheap soap opera before a commercial for douches. Total garbage. There are few greater crimes than taking something great and pointlessly remaking it into something awful. Stop me before I listen to that awesome harmonic solo again!

This album is laden with great talent, solid production and most of all fun, fun, fun! The songs are not just silly, they rock! Curious?
Like many other people I have had this album since it was released and have never gotten tired of it. This project could have so easily been soulless and stupid, but the bands featured really give it all they've got!
Here's a quick review of each track:
-The Tra-La-La Song: A high energy, alternative jam.
-Speed Racer: A high point for the album, Sponge really shreds on this song and gives it a lot of dimension with motor/guitar sounds.
-Sugar, Sugar: Very trippy, slower version of the song, with cute vocals.
-Scooby-Doo: An OK song, but not great...a little too long. ... Read More:

Let's just say, the TV show Swingtown has a great soundtrack and I was looking for something reasonably priced to fill my need for these tunes. Big Hits of the 70's did just that. 20 awesome hits from my favorite decade.
Release Date March 24, 1998
I bought this CD for the Slash piece that is included. I liked each and every piece in this CD, and the only reason it gets 4 stars rather than 5 is because all pieces are quite similar. There are no significant variations in the mood or sound between them, so it can get a tiny bit boring by the time you reach the end of it. Great for background music.

I Love Rock & Roll: Hits of the '60s, Vol. 2 has some pretty smart sounding rock tunes from the remarkable 1960s. The sound quality is very good and I like the different artists they put on this album. The artwork is also nicely done.
"All Day And All Of The Night" starts it off with The Kinks doing their usual great job on this hot song. The modulations between major and minor keys blow me away and the lyrics sure are cool! Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody To Love" has a great late `60s feel that always makes me smile when I hear it; and The Byrds do their awesome "Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season)." "Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is A Season)" is an exquisite piece of music and The Byrds perform this flawlessly with guitars, ... Read More:

This is a really nice selection of bossa nova music, but my CD only had 20 tracks, despite being labeled as having 22. Did this happen to anybody else? Still, it's 20 tracks of really nice music, so I can't get too upset.
