I bought myself a CD player/alarm clock combo for the holidays..so I could wake up to music and not a jarring alarm sound ( dreadful way to face the day!) Just to test it out, I grabbed the nearest CD which just happened to be this Windham Hill compilation. Well, let's just say its been the ONLY music in my alarm clock since, and there it will stay! There is NOTHING like waking up to the opening strains of discs one OR two. Like meditation music...with an uplift! Fabulous! Wish I had thought of this years ago! I keep the music on whilst getting ready for work, and it lends a lovely, peaceful tone to my day. GREAT variety of tunes and instrumental talents! Bravo Windham Hill! Lisa in CT

A few weak tracks, but some real gems on here all performed on Taylor Acoustic Guitars. Steve Stevens (from Billy Idol) plays a great flamenco on Sadhana. Clint Black does a fine version of The Claw. And Amy Grant and Vince Vaughn perform a moving How Great Thou Art. Characterizing it as "New Age" is a bit unfair. Just some really good acoustic guitar performances from a good collection of artists including the late Michael Hedges and William Ackerman.

For the "Little Rich Kid" review below, he should realize that the tracks on this CD is what started it all for Hip Hop. "Little Rich Kid" is probably one of those youngsters that THINKS drinking Jin & Juice and acting like a thug is Hip Hop!
I realize that this stuff might be outdated to you young folks, but you must realize that these were the pioneers of Hip Hop. The newer generation (25 & under) won't relate to it, but you should give it the respect it deserves.

This is a fairly short CD, at only 9 songs, but the high quality of each track is worth it. The weak spot, comparatively speaking, is "Help Is On Its Way" by the Little River Band, but even that is a good song. The best are America's "Ventura Highway," Gary Wright's "Dream Weaver," Alan Parsons's "Games People Play," and Al Stewart's "Time Passages." Whether relaxing, driving, working, or studying, this fits all moods.

Joe Byrd is from my hometown, Tucson, attended the University of Arizona, and was instrumental in creating two of the most interesting and overlooked (and almost forgotten) albums of the late 1960s -- this one, and Joe Byrd & the Field Hippies' "The American Metaphysical Circus."
While The USA has always gotten the most praise, the Field Hippies project was my introduction to Joe Byrd and will always hold a bit more fascination for me. I bought The USA album (on vinyl, years and years ago, when it had the original tracks. When I found it again on CD, it was in the late '80s when CDs were just tape converted to digital sound. The audio was, as expected, of poor quality. Finally, this album has been given the updated make-over (and bonus ... Read More:

More than 30 years after Stax-Volt last published, at last I have my hands on all three volumes of 'The Complete...'. The individual volumes have some great music, not all of which found its way around the world. Hearing great music for the first time long after the label's demise is a mixture of elation tinged with regret. Yet the breadth of the three volumes is astonishing and encompasses a range of talent, unique yet all related through the label (of course) and mostly through the session/backing musicians. If you can, buy all three volumes of this amazing collection and then turn the music up. And see how quickly your smile turns to a broad and happy grin. Enjoy.
