Get this reworked version of the all time reggae classic songs from the golden era. Only album every that can rank alongside the best of Marley.
Release Date April 06, 1993
There was a time when pop radio wasn't homogenuous boy bands and interchangeable lowest common denominator hip-hop. The decade of the 70s was the best illustration of that, when you could hear the unabashed country tearjerker "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" next to bad seed anthem "Smokin' in the Boys Room".
This set pulls together 1 #1 hit, another 3 from the Top 10, and 2 from the lower reaches of the Top 40. Add to that a near-miss from the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver and you have this set.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Among the big hits, #3 hit "Boys Room" remains a classic and this is the definitive version replete with attitude and that great talked intro (Motley Crue, eat your heart out..). Country weepers "Good Time ... Read More:

Awesome, I received my item in a very timely manner. I enjoy all the songs especially " The Horse" which was one of the theme songs in my high school band and the entertaining " El Watusi".

Rhino's DISCO BOX can easily be dismissed as incomplete due to the fact that there are no Bee Gees cuts (hey record companies will not let Rhino license EVERYTHING), and 95% of the songs are presented in their AM-radio 7" 45 R.P.M. lengths. However, with the dazzling array of material here and the very infomative and colorful 60-page booklet, the folks at Rhino have done an excellent job in capturing this important musical genre. Think of this stellar collection as a supplement to your Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.

Along with the other reviewers, this is my favorite celtic compilation. I, too, am moved to tears by Strathgarry at the end. My husband and I loved the music on this cd so much that we used most of it for our wedding 10 years ago, and had it included in our wedding video. It's still as good today as it was then.

the best among these cuts is madonna's 'supernatural'. she was still doing that cheeky combo of latin beats and saucy lyrics. she also still had that tight, closed sound to her vocals that made her voice distinctive. damn that seth riggs for training her out of her style!
because this was a sony release and george michael was a sony contractee, he is the most featured artist on the disc. his contributions, save 'too funky' are not very memorable.
the remixes aren't bad, especially 'change' by lisa stansfield. but there would be more and better suprises with later red hot discs.

This is the second of two soundtrack CDs issued for the movie "The Big Chill" (the first being The Big Chill - 15th Anniversary: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) and it contains the remaining songs from the movie that were not included in the first album, along with four additional songs from the same era that were not actually included in the movie: "It's the Same Old Song", "Dancing in the Street", "What's Going On" and "Too Many Fish in the Sea". Presumably these songs were included so that this album didn't end up being too short.
Considering that it was necessary for the producers of this album to pad this CD out with additional music, it is disappointing to note that, as in the first "Big Chill" CD, "You Can't Always Get What You ... Read More:

I've got it on now, and I've been listening to the original "Tapestry" re-release recently (fantastic!), so here's my streaming thoughts.
(Some explanation of my grading. I believe that if you're going to do a cover, you have to bring something to the party to make it an interesting version and in some way better than the original. Note for note copies are worthless. Did you ever hear Poison's cover of Loggins and Messina's "Your Mama Don't Dance"? This to me is the worst cover of all time. They do nothing new, except smooth over any actual articulation of the lyrics, and they don't even bring the high heat. Frankly, if you can't rock harder than Kenny Loggins, then for God's sake, DO NOT COVER HIS SONGS! Please. This is not a high bar. Bottom ... Read More:
