Liz Wright's voice is one to die for! When I first heard the Blue Rose on the radio I almost had to pull over! (I was driving) Her lusty tones and the rhythm and melody of the song is the perfect intro for a night of shared intimacy with a loved one. Her voice is like plopping onto your favorite bed, with a big fluffy pillow on it. She makes me think of comfort, of home. Wow! I was glad that I finally found this disk. If the rest of the disk was horrible (which it is not, I like it too!)I would still rank it five stars just for the Blue Rose song.

Queen Latifah fails to dissapoint. There is nothing she can't do. She can rap, She can act, and she can SANG! With Trav'Lin Light, She takes on classic songs originally done by Phoebe Snow, The Pointer Sisters, 10cc, Billie Holiday, just to name a few and adds her own, new fresh spin to them. What bothers me is that when it comes to her singing, she does strictly covers which makes me wonder if it's easier for her to write rap lyrics than it is to write jazz, R&B and easy listening lyrics. I think more original non-rap songs would be nice. Adding "I know where I've Been" from Hairspray was a great way to close the album. The voice this woman has makes me wonder why she started out doing rap music in the first place

So this CD is supposed to be the leftover scraps from Yes, Virginia, but you wouldn't really know it. I wouldn't be suprised that the Dresden Dolls knew they had 2 albums worth of material at recording time much like Radiohead Kid A/Amnesiac. Some of the tracks are so strong, I'm suprised they didn't make the first album (again, leading me to believe they were planning this 2 album deal the whole time). It's worth buying, go do it.

The most important thing to remember is that this is a collaboration of musical artists that have rarely sung swing or standards and yet, all of them show us why they made it in music. Elton John, K.D. Lang, James Taylor, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Bono, and Elvis Costello all did a great job considering the style and tempo of the songs selected were not their usual "cup of tea."
The 1 song that didn't make me smile was the song "Smile." I don't believe Barbara Streisand understands the concept of a duet. I don't believe she's capable of complementing any singer. Most of the song featured Barbara going off into her usual disjointed self-absorbed "la la land." (If you think this is a good duet, you don't know anything about music)

Do you like to listen to music on your Walkman as you take your daily stroll? Do you like background music during a nice dinner, or while you are reading? Do you enjoy lush harmonies? Then this recording is for you.
Do you want music you can analyze and categorize? Then pass this one up.
For me, the pluses of the disc: For the most part, the orchestrations support and complement the singers. The four part harmonies are delightful.
The minuses: It all sounds alike. Nothing on the recording reaches out and grabs your attention. "Unchained Melody" and "My Way" begin as if they are going to be different; then they quickly gravitate into the sameness.
Don't throw the recording away. Just listen to it under the right conditions, and enjoy it for what ... Read More:

Some pretty songs are on this CD. I can't listen to it in its entirety at one time as Celine Dion's voice isn't one that I can listen to for long periods of time, but in short bursts is great. Recommend this for anyone liking more romantic music.

I hated this dvd. The only reason I gave it two stars is because when he is singing it's great. I was very disappointed that it didn't have a song menu so you could jump from song to song. It was unbearable to listen to his banter with the audience/camera man. Too immature! I would have been fine if he were not trying to be so cutsey. Seems like he's full of himself. Would not recommend it for that reason.
