Jerry Vale had the look, the grin, the hair, the easy comfy comraderie of Italian boys that sang like angels with no rebel intrigue. Perry Como looked like Marlon Brando compared with Jerry.

But Jerry had a style, and a voice that could reach bel-canto tones better than most of the other second tier singers of the '50's. Jerry was not Dean or Tony or good-gracious Frank, but he had a following, mostly due to his friendly nature and willingness to befriend a crowd.

This CD is a sampler of his Italian songs, sung true in dialect and passionate! The recordings are remastered to stereo and sound terrific, much better than the Columbia LPs or worse, 45s.

This is the only Gloria Estefan I own. I generally can't stand disco/pop and while she's really Latin, she easily fits the pop category. But she's done some beautiful ballad/love songs and her dancing stuff accomplishes what it's supposed to...it makes me want to get up and dance. This CD contains everything Estefan has done that I'd ever want or need.

Any fan of 20th century contemporary jazz and rock will love this documentary - Tom Dowd made the genius musician sound like a genius. He would climb into a song just like the musician did and helped create some of the most enduring records of all time. For me in particular, the section where he re-visits the recording of "Layla", and he's sitting at the board and isolates just the guitars of Duane and Eric interplaying is simply spine tingling. Dowd says "Those are not human notes..." I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

For those of you unfamiliar with Josh Groban this is a great way to start. It is his first cd - self titled - What a voice. He has several other cd's as well as dvd's (awesome by the way) He changed my life - We call ourselves Grobonites a proud name to bear. Whatever you've heard about the music - if you haven't listened you truly need to. You will not be sorry about the investmant you've made. He has a charitable foundation that helps bring medicine and drinking water to villages in Africa. His foundation also works with AIDS patients. I've actually met him and was able to tell him that he helped me thru Cancer his voice kept me going thru some tough times. Please just listen once. (and it doesn't hurt that he's cute too!)

Quincy Jones already rocks my world. I have nothing but respect for him and the level of musical excellence that has always surrounded anything he put his considerable mind and talent to. But this re-imagining of Handel's Messiah from an African-American perspective is exceptional, extraordinary, unabated joy--especially in "And He Shall Purify" and "Hallelujah!" I am a middle-aged white musician/pianist/voice teacher in New York City. I got my Master's at Indiana University in voice. I was raised a Southern-Baptist even! I only offer up this information to suggest what an unlikely candidate I might be to enjoy this CD. I can't stop smiling and moving with these extraordinary performances when I put this CD on. The Secret Garden (1991 Original Broadway Cast)

This play is about pain, loss and most of all, hope for redemption. I was lucky enough to catch a touring cast perform this show locally back in the 90's and was brought to tears by the song "Lily's Eyes" (which is a tough thing to do to an angst-filled teen). Though at the moment you won't catch this show on Broadway or a major tour... if you ever get the opportunity you really should see it.

As far as this CD, and my review of it. This is a very good rendition of the show, it is well mixed and if you have not seen the show you should be able to follow the basics of the story fairly easily. I first bought Moulin Rouge 2 soundtrack because I wanted the songs from the movie w/ the actual singers. But there's little of that on this soundtrack. It's a good compliment to the first soundtrack, but my collection still feels very short. Even with both CDs, I am still missing the *original* versions of the songs, sung by the actors, as they are sung IN the movie. The ones sung by the actors are remixed for the soundtracks, and most of them are not sung by the actors. There are a couple of instrumentals on this CD as well, which personally I don't care for. I bought the CD because I wanted to hear Ewan and Nicole sing, not a bunch of instruments!
